I love text tattoos on guys, but make sure it's something important that you don't think you will regret. Also you might want to get it on your leg instead of your arm cause if yoiu lose muscle definition in your arm it will look dumb but on your leg it doesn't make that much difference.
Also, the first one is always the hardest, if you get more it will get easier.

If anything, guys look better with tattoos. Assuming the tattoos are decent themselves that is.
Like Alex said, as long as it's something meaningful that'll apply for the rest of your life. And if it's already meaningful, you've already avoided part one of Why Your Tattoo Sucks. I'm someone who really hates people who get tattoos of "Stars cause they're pretty and stuff" or "Dragons cause they're cool and I'm a man!" Even when they don't involve text, it's always good to have a reasoning behind the design, SOME thought into it. Of course, text tattoos have that issue far less. But they still do.
As for location advice, honestly, unless you're 100% sure what you are going to do when you grow up, I'd be careful about where you put it. I enjoy a place that can very well be visible but is also very easy to cover up should the need arise. I don't like the placement of my dad's tattoo, for instance, because it NEVER shows unless he's shirtless. It's on his upper arm. Mine is on my wrist, so if I wanted to I could wear a bracelet or long sleeve shirt and I could cover it up. Wrists are also visible but are easily missed, especially when it's your recessive hand. I'd have to wave it in someone's face to get them to notice it.
But unless you're going into a very laidback career, I'd make sure you can hide it. I work at Starbucks even, and visible tattoos are not allowed. Imagine if you were going into business, law, politics, medicine, etc.

When it comes to tattoos, what you pay for is what you get. Don't be cheap about it, because it might turn out horrible. Instead, look really hard at the artist's work before and figure out what you want done.

Hell no it doesn't look gay, just make sure whatever you get, you wont regert when your in your 40s ;). Just saying they are painful, when the person is doing it, just take deep breaths that helps to ease the pain, it helped alot

Like someone else said, you pay for what you get. Don't be cheap, and don't go on impulse. Take plenty of time and look through the artists work before you schedule and appointment.
