What is all the hype over Apple products? I don't see what makes them so special.

Really? Another "what is all the hype about apple" thread? Creativity is slipping. Apple is beast and I've never had a problem with anything of theirs. They're over priced because they spend a lot of time and money developing. And the hype? Because they're beast. Done.

No they're not. There is no longer anything innovative about Apple mobile devices. Using iOS is like being locked in a small, empty, white room.

Meh, the other 50 million plus users beg to differ. And plus, f you jailbroke it, then the restrictions won't be a bother.

You shouldn't have to modify it to get close when there are better, more powerful devices out there, just because it's from Apple.

I don't get it either! They're way overhyped. Think because of Steve Jobs dying, they're sorta "in fashion" or whatever atm.

Would you rather have an operating system that presents little to no limitations as opposed to one that basically locks you in a small corner? iOS has to have a lot of work done to perfect it. Apple products look flashy and well polished, but that's about it. Paying $1,500 to $2,000 for an Apple computer that is basically all mid-end hardware when I can build a new Windows run PC that has high-end hardware for the same price (and sometimes even better) is just not good.

I agree, Apple computers I like the the looks of their GUIS (Same thing for the Iphone and ipad) but Yes they are way too overpriced, have too many restrictions and half the time they're insanely slow. My school uses them and half the time the computer I was assigned to takes like 5 to 15 mins just to boot up. and 2 mins just to open a single program. And the thing is they have started to base them off of linux (I use Ubuntu 11.10) But I wouldn't say Windows is typically better, considering some people can't use windows for more than 5 mins without killing the computer. So I've switched to ubuntu linux and as new versions come out its getting better, and depending on your computer it can even boost your overall performance. Its simple to find what you're looking for in the file manager, and its very flexible when you figure out how to unlock all of its features. (Command to unlock root is "sudo -i" then after it unlock root terminal commands use "passwd root" to change the root password and unlock it in your system.)

They look nice, have a different OS to competitors and use the special "i" in front of a lot of things. Not to mention that peope may also be bying cause of Steve Jobs' death.

What the hell are you on? MacOS is and always will be based on BSD Unix.
(I use Ubuntu 11.10)
Thanks for sharing. That's irrelevant to the thread, by the way. ;)

Wait...when did we go to discussing Ubuntu?

...just like any other OS.

That shouldn't even be needed. Imagine the large, gaping security hole that sudo for all can create!

That being said, I dislike Apple's products, simply because I don't see how I'll be entertained by them. To me, an iPad is something I use for a week and then put it on the shelf because I'm bored to hell with it.
Although, they do make very nice-looking UIs -- I'll admit that -- although it's just too commercial for my taste.
C'mon people, let's chillax with some free OSes :hippy:

Mac OSX. Crippled Unix.
iOS. Crippled operating system in general. I will say, they DO have their benefits. I dislike apple, but you have to give them at least a few thumbs up for their success in general.

I never did buy into apple because of the so called "hype" and fashion sensibilities. They look good yes, but primarily for me the main thing is, it works. Ive been with windows all my life and had a pc build for me about 3 years back. So I just wanted a change and I've been happy since. I don't and never will agree with the cost to product ratio they have, it is rather overpriced. But I'm happy buying something I know will work the way I like it to. And about those school macs taking two minutes to load up; there's something wrong bud. Mine doesn't take anywhere near that long and it's been going for a while.
And what's with people with pc's always attacking people with macs? Can't you just be happy at how far technology has come in general?

Let's see, I have multiple Apple products and I have set up multiple apple products. I wasn't attacking, in fact I applauded them for doing a few things right. Some things I don't agree with Apple or Microsoft. They're both giant corporate bastards, but this is how we operate.
Apple products owned.
iPod touch- First gen. Third day released.
MacBook third gen. School gave it to us, I don't use it often
Apple products set up and maintained
iMac 27 inch i7.
MacBook Pro, 15 inch i7.
Not really sitting here bashing anyone.

And when did I say "stop attacking me"?
I was just regarding the ridiculous slagging match people are having about different OS's and companies tech.
Anyway I don't know why I'm even trying to defend a company I'm not professionally representing.

They're not that great really. My dad has an iPad2 and it's meh. I'm getting an iPod Touch for my birthday but only because my mp3 player is outdated and annoying to put music onto.

Apple products really aren't that good, but people are impressionable so to a lot of folks, the ads are amazing and they cross out the shittiness of the product because they still believe the ads.
As for being overpriced, they have to fund the advertizing

The high price tag is a marketing stunt, high prices usually for some people show high quality. This debate is like consoles vs pc, it will never end. I myself prefer and love the iPad, iPod touch and the iPod nano. They have a very good history of dealing with problems, for example near the end of last year they called back 1st gen nanos, we had to wait a bit for something to come back but 2 weeks ago a box came with a new nano for us. Honestly this arguement will always be about personal favourites, if you hate apple's marketing techniques which really work or do you prefer android samsungs that get done for copyright in various countries. There's an app for that! :P

I love how after everyone has an opinion different to yours, you stopped talking like that ^ I actually laughed.
Hey, I'm getting a free iPad 2 cause of mah school, I'm not gonna complain. :3

High price tag. High product connectivity too, and a well integrated syncing and "discovering" tool if you lose either of your things (sucks to lose both your mac and iphone though). It's a bit of a drug - by the time you've got round to learning your mac if you're new, you'll be roped into an iphone and then an ipad, then upgrading at every refresh.
It's nothing more than a marketing gimmick, although for the productivity side, I love every side of it.
Design and performance aren't perfect and comes at a price, but it works.

Are you suggesting that I abandoned the thread because the debate was one sided? I actually had "mah" self a good chuckle when I read your post. The problem with my email is that when I receive a few notifications about post replies, the emails stop until I come back here. Thus meaning I didn't know These last couple posts came through.

Nope, been "in fashion" since he and Wozniak started the company in something like 1976. He started out of his parent's garage, and going from that to having the single most valuable company in the world, he has to be a genius. I read the biography, really good. He was a really smart person.
And Apple has the tools for creative work, the thing that is popular with the current generation. And the current generation can use the technology most easily; they were the ones that grew up with that.

You're right, Apple products are AMAZING! They have 1 flaw, it is impossible to actually 'close' an app, so after 2-3 days of use they ( iPads, iPhones and iPods) begin to run slow. They just have to be turned off and right back on, takes about 2 minutes, and they are back to their normal (super fast) speed.

you just double tap the home button, and hold the application then press the X as long as your iPod/iPhone is capable of multi tasking....
I love Apple products. I have a PC for a laptop at the moment, but I am being converted. Mainly for the media prospects, but also cause I just like the design and the experience of using them. UI is a big part of using a computer for me

Damn, where you guys when the argument started? Haha
I'm glad I'm not the only person here who doesn't think that Apple products are all style and substance. I admit that there are a ton of guys that buy these products for the fashion appeal and ambiguity, but I don't buy things because of how they only make me appear to people or the adverts.

Well yeah they've been about for ages obviously, and been "in fashion" I guess. But just lately they seem to have been promoted a lot more etc, I think that's because of Steve Jobs' death.
I do like their products though a lot.

Any media player you buy is going to offer shit quality because the files are compressed. Unless you find me a media player that can play high quality lossless (read: flac and wav) files, then I'll be convinced. I'll admit that I have an iPod, but I listen to music through my PC more than that.

Me neither, I really dislike apple. The products themselves are usually very good quality but the software is very incompatible and they are way overpriced.
Not compatible? Mac is fully compatible with Windows, it's Windows that isn't compatible with mac
Word Documents and pretty much any other Microsoft format - opens them out of the box.
Runs the entire Windows OS so well that the MacBook Pro has previously been ranked the number 1 Windows notebook in terms of performance.
Hardware aside people like Apple products as they are stable, intuitive, easy to use for beginners while providing possibilities for more experienced users, you can plug a peripheral in and it just works without having to spend 10 minutes having to install drivers, to get viruses you have to install them yourself.
The original Mac came out long after schedule. It wasn't because developers were lazy, it was because they didn't want to rest until it was perfect in every aspect and did what it was supposed to.
Apple designs products with it's users in mind and everything just works.
Apples market share is going up in the computer industry because 9 times out of ten when someones switches to a Mac, they don't switch back.
And as for price, yes they may cost a bit more but generally the build quality is so much better, they're reliable, they work with everything you throw at them, and even if the specs are close to a PC which costs a few hundred dollars less, the operating system makes up for it by being one of the most efficient and advanced around, which when combined with Apples engineering marvel, gives an unrivaled computer experience.

If I wanted a Mac commercial, I'd turn on the TV. "unrivaled computer experience" my ass. I own a Mac, and I enjoy it, but putting it up on this bigass pedestal is exaggerating. It's not unrivaled or any of that shit. It's just another OS, and depending on what the user needs to do, it has pros and cons.

Almost every company that has things manufactured in China uses child labour. It would be too expensive otherwise, about 10% more expensive. If it were made in the US, it would be about 90% more expensive.
That computer you were using(regardless of the company) is very likely to contain child-manufactured parts.

Imo i dont like apple much simply cause they are very close minded. Both the iphone and the ipad are closed platform. Ironically, i have an iphone and an ipad, but i had to jailbreak them cause i couldnt stand not being able to theme and customize the things i want. Plus i hate no flash on non jailbroken devices.
