Will weed ever be legal for recreational users?

Do I hope it is: Yea.
Is it likely in the next 10 years: Not sure. Hopefully, people will realize that there are more important things for law enforcement to focus on.

Somehow, I doubt that. I can agree that use might increase slightly. There was an economics professor who did a study on drug legalization. Legalization of soft drugs would probably lead to a lower increase in use than legalization of harder drugs. However legalization of harder drugs might mitigate the hazards associated with hard drug use.
Furthermore, I find the gateway theory highly fallacious. Doesn't alcohol, tobacco, caffeine or milk lead to harder drugs? If you drink Kool-Aid, you are more likely to live in a high-poverty area, therefore you are at more risk to use harder drugs. Is Kool-Aid the magical key to heroin? The gateway theory relies on loose conclusions that are often obscured by many confounding factors. For that reason, only the most staunch anti-drug officials will really use that argument heavily.

I actually believe that it will be, as drinking is actually more harmful than weed.

As soon as the government stops making out weed to be a killer toxin and start focusing on how alcohol is much more of a threat, then it will be legalized. Until then, no.

I think it will be. The young people now will eventually be the older ones, the guys who are in charge. It's not a question of how dangerous it is, but of how it's treated by the people in positions of power.

I do believe so. They'll soon see that its a very minor issue amongst the gigantic issues we will need to face.

I believe it should be legalized, but not because I do the drug, but because our country is dumping money into a lost cause of stopping the use of drugs. It is like stopping piracy. No matter how hard the government tries, and no matter how many bills are passed, people are going to find ways to illegally share or download copywrited material. However, the downside if we were to legalize pot is that it does indeed induce a state of being high, which can become a danger to those around the person under the influence. Also, I heard somewhere that each joint does about the same smoke damage as 3 cigarettes. So there are health issues to legalizing it. However, I believe it in the best views of our country to just go ahead and legalize it, since we are so far in debt. We cannot continually dump our tax-payer's money into the same thing, with little success.

Many hard drugs exist in a completely legal form. For example, methamphetamine or chrystal meth is used occasionally to treat ADHD. Anabolic steroid are also prescribed by doctors all the time, this is how professional athletes get their supply. They are followed along by a doctor to ensure minimal health risk.
I don't think marijuana will be legalized soon, although I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
