hey everyone, recently ive been thinking, if i should get an xbox. because all my friends have one and thats like all everybody does. i have a wii and a Ps2 and a Ps3 (dont use). and ive met ppl on here that i would like to play with. but the thing is, i no nothing about any of the games, how much everything costs, and the thing is like, video games like i dont play alot so maybe thats it, maybe if i played with friends, but all the games are a lot more than others for other gaming consoles.

Well, if you want to game, go with an Xbox. If you want multimedia, go with a PS3. Also now with move and Kinect, Wii is pretty much useless.
For a new 360 game that's come out in the past few months it's around 80-120 $AUD
If you want to know about games there are a few Xbox only games that are really good such as the Halo and Fable series. But other mainstream games are available on other consoles anyway. I suppose it's really whether or not you actually use the thing.

I have a playstation move and I love it. I'd say if you play online then you may be better off with the xbox and xbox live membership since its much better and faster than ps3, but in all honesty I prefer ps3 as it is good all-round. Some games you may know for xbox are:
Kinect games (sports etc)
Dance Central
Halo 3

Overall at the moment the next gen xbox should be coming out in roughly a year.
I would say hold off.
Pricing for xbox
Console ~roughly 300
Games roughly ~60 each
xbox live ~60/year
Kinect ~ 100
Headset ~30 for an *okay* headset . 60 for a decent one
Keep in mind Xbox plays an UPSCALED version of 720p. Lower definition.
It is also on it's last leg. The games are surpassing what it can handle.
So figure 580 dollars for a full console and one new game
OR You could go the PC Route
Figure a decent gaming computer is roughly 700 dollars
a decent monitor is 100 to play at 1080p on 22 inch.
Games are cheaper roughly 50 dollars each for a new game
There is no cost for online gaming.
Gaming computer? 850 dollars for the system and one game. Think about this, this computer would last you about 3-4 years for a midrange system like this, it'll also play games smoother than the xbox and at a higher quality.

it really depends on the games you wanna play, xbox is where i do most of my gaming. But i also have a ps3 for the ps3 exclusive games. like formido said, a new console will be coming out within 2 years and its very expensive for the console and the games, depending on which ones you want... and who knows if the new software will support the old games. hopefully they do because theres plenty of good games coming out in the future.
It just really depends on the games you want to play, if you dont like halo or other xbox exclusives it may be best to stick with ps3 cause they also have some great exclusives like uncharted by naughty dog and other naughty dogs like "the last of us" coming out soon.
xbox does seem to be more popular between my friends as well but it will be expensive if you also are going to be buying the new xbox console when it comes out

If you think you're too inexperienced then don't bother, but buy one of the older models (RROD era) and fix it. I hear you can get a broken one for $50- and fix it with like $10.08. I'm working on my old one now and it's actually easier than I expected.
Or if not, then go with computers.

Agreed 100%. At this point and some of what I have personally heard the new gen systems will be released some 3rd quarter 2013. Which to be honest, is not that far off. So save your dough buddy, these new systems are gonna be expensive as shit, I reckon.

Chances are that the next gen consoles are a few years off (about four to five years). It's much better to get a console now than later. I personally prefer the PS3 for multimedia capabilities and free online service (also for the use of real money instead of a point system, but that's pretty minor). If you want true HD gaming, either get a PS3 or a gaming PC. Xbox upscales between 720p and 1080p, which is bastardizing true HD (imagine stretching an image of 100 pixels to 10 times that, looks bad huh?).
Prices for games, of course, are expensive. But that's usually for new games. You can find pre-owned games that are still in great condition for much less. New games that are pre-owned usually go for about 30 to 40 dollars about two or three months after release. Pre-owned isn't as bad as people put it out to be.

Personally, I'd say go for it. I've had a great amount of fun times playing Xbox.

Don't forget the Kinect is OPTIONAL. Really, I see no point in one unless you're using it for family games. And for the standard Microsoft headset (which I believe is still bundled with new Xbox's) is only 20. Those work fine for me.
So for one game, the console, and one year of Xbox Live Gold is $420. I don't mind paying an extra $60/year for online play. But that's just me.

no, my parents would buy it, they buy everything for me. unless its on the spot and something i just want for hell of it, ill buy it. but they most of time pay me back. Me personally dont spend my own money if its over $30, then they buy it. (i know Im a spoiled rich kid)

i know this is stupid, but where i live they dont even broadcast in 1080P. i mean of course all of our tvs are flatscreen and 1080P but, its annoying, we have 6 flatscreens (including my room where t would be) and none like "live up to potential."

Most, if not all, TV channels are now in HD (interlaced, not progressive, which is slightly better). However, depending on your service provider, you may or may not have to pay extra charges for it. With DirecTV (my provider) gives you free HD for life alone with multiple HD receivers. It makes a difference to view something in 1080p or 1080i than it is anything else. But that's only if you're looking at things from a multimedia/media center point of view.
