It's not a very popular hobby among young people but I absolutely love it. I haven't done much in a while but I plan to pick it up again this year, along with rock climbing. I've just been fooling around on the simulator for a while.

I really want to save up for a Mikado Logo 500SE, the god of hard core 3d helis.

So, I just wanted to know if there was anyone here that's into this hobby; either helis or planks (planes). I know it's an old man hobby but I can't get enough of it.

Awesome, are they nitro? What's your favorite manufacturer? Currently on my "to buy sometime" list is a Mikado logo 500SE and a Trex 500 ESP. I think I'd like to get a quadcopter as well and do some aerial photography with it. Maybe a summer business or something.

Do you have Phoenix sim?

I enjoy R/C planes, I like helicopters too but I tried to fly a friend's before and I nearly crashed it (his was a very expensive one too around $1000) so I haven't really tried any heli's since. I don't have any R/C's right not though since my last one crashed. I actually made my last one from scratch out of almost all carbon fibre (it was about 2.5ft long, looked kind of similar to a U2 in proportions). Other than that I haven't really ever had a real R/C plane.

My dads into these things. They look fun but are bloody difficult to control.

Awesome, where do you get your materials from. I built a 3d biplane out of epp. I made the motor mount out of basswood, and I used a coat hanger for teh landing gear. I also was forced to use hot glue to build it as I couldn't get the carbon strips to stick to the damn foam.:D By the time I was done, I swear it weighed 15 pounds. It also had reall flimsy unstable control rods and tiny 5gm servos. It flew like an old wooden sailboat. It was hard not to laugh at it, I'm surprised it flew. :D

They're not that bad once you get the hang of it, orientation is the hardest thing to get. Ask your dad to set you up on a buddy box so you can try flying.:)

I got almost all of the carbon fiber from a website called "DragonPlate" things like the motors and radio's I got from a local hobby shop. The worst part about when it crashed is that it crashed into a lake and I never found it :'( It was quite light and strong since it was all Carbon Fiber and it was quite nimble thanks to that.

My friend's brother has a lot of cool RC things, they're pretty sweet but I wouldn't trust myself with anything expensive that I'm controlling from the ground while it flies around xD
