No country. Bluegrass and Old-Time. Modern country is a disgrace to its roots. Yes, just an opinion, don't worry. But still.

Aye, that's the sad truth of it. There's some good stuff that's more modern, like Old Crow Medicine Show, and you can still find a good amount of Scruggs and Flatt, Skaggs, Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, Reno and Smiley, etc. online, though. I'm near San Francisco, so we get a lot of Bluegrass through here with all the hippies around. I actually managed to go to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival a while back, saw Scruggs himself live, as well as some other big artists.
As for other accusations, which included, I must say, quite extensive vocabulary, I'm well aware of the "country music" around today besides the big stuff that you hear on the radio. And I don't like that stuff either. Some of the old country from the 70's is alright, but otherwise I strongly prefer its origins in classic blues and bluegrass.

Cant beat OCMS! If ya like them look up "the steeldrivers" there alright.
Lucky! I play alittle of the banjo and most people around here thinks it weird hahaha.
Its also kind of funny how some people have formed there self around country music... how just because they listen to country, have a pick up with 4 wheel drive and sling alittle mud every now and then they are country... B.S! I was raised knowing the true values of a good life, working hard, and not accepting any handouts... i always did right, worked hard for what i wanted in life.. and that has now got me to where i want to be. People respect me, and know they can come to me for whatever they need.

Very nice, I also play some banjo, mostly old-time. Play bluegrass with my siblings whenever we get together, lots of fun.
And yes, I've never liked the whole tight jeans, cowboy hat and big expensive truck deal, it's just the image. I'm raised in the hills around Santa Cruz Mountains, so I know what you mean by good country raising. But to each their own, I suppose, if folks like the whole redneck style.
As far as country bands go, I like Alabama well enough. Some of the old stuff like Boxcar Willie or Roy Acuff is good. I lean towards traditional Appalachian music from around the 30's, like Coon Creek Gals, Carter Family, Skillet Likkers... Grew up with a lot of that kind of music.

the song he talked about was terrible though, writing a song on an acoustic guitar, singing with a dull, emotionless voice and adding a shit ton of twang doesn't make it country. Sure maybe, top 40 tier country shit, but not the good kind

Old country is some the best music in the world. But modern country is some of the worst in the world. It's not all bad lesson to Rebel Son on youtube. Is not like old country but its still good country.

i love songs that have are written with great sense and have true heart-felt, meaningful lyrics (to a varying extent) sadly, i've yet to come across more than a couple Country songs that come anywhere close to that description. Always stupid self pity about losing a dog, a truck/tractor, or a woman.
