So I've heard the elliptical burns more calories than the tread mill. Does it? If so how many more calories? (walking at 5 mph for 20 mins)

I have heard that too it seems accurate because your moving more. also if u can elivate your treadmill, a lot of the new ones do, it makes a huge difference. but you should go outside and run! its better! run bike swim!!!

I walk on real landscape. That is the best exercise because you use more muscles to balance on I level ground

If you use the elliptical, crank the resistance up! That'll definitely increase your calorie burn

it depends on your workout...If you want to run do the treadmill, but if you want to walk use the elliptical, so that you burn the same amount of calories

Couldn't be worse than mine dude. Laid off my hockey and soccer team because of my "safety". I've slowly built it up and did a few short mountain treks (mostly less than 20km cuz I'm a bit of a wuss in cold weather)
I don't really do a cardio in the gym at all, except for a 5 minute warmup on the rower or bike. I do all of mine outside and first thing in the morning, three 5-10km runs and another three 20-40km bike rides a week. All on hills, crap terrain and so forth.

Is the elliptically good though? How many calories does it burn using it for 30 minutes (3-5 mph)?

I did elliptical today, but I ran it at about 13-14km/h which is about 8-9mph, on quite a high incline level, for 15 minutes. Apparently the machine is fucked on calorie readout so I wouldn't have a clue, but heck I know that was one hell of a workout. Not bad I'd say but I still prefer riding/running out in the open. More interesting things to look at and not as hot as doing it indoors.

Elliptical trainers get their name from the path of movement; an ellipse. It is not a very natural movement and thus won't grant you much cardiovascular benefit. The elliptical is typically used by older people and those whose bodies cannot take the joint stress of running.
If you're looking for the best cardiovascular workout then you should start speed skipping. It will help you with agility and reflexes also.

Elliptical burns more calories, if I'm not mistaken. It's also better for your joints, since it's low impact n all.
