View Full Version : Hairy. Advice?

I need advice. Alright, well basically, I already posted a post like this but now I am asking a different question.

I am 16 and very hairy. The hairiest of my friends, in fact. (Do not judge off my avatar, that camera is extremely bad at showing body hair). I have very hairy legs, very hairy ass, very hairy arms, and a hairy stomach area. Hair is beginning to grow more on my chest, as well.

My question is: I don't want to do anything about my leg hair and arm hair. I could care less about my ass hair because I am not going to be showing my ass in public..at least not that I know of.
What I want to know is if I should shave my stomach and chest area. What do you think..? I take off my shirt in public a lot and I get very self conscious about it, especially since all my other guy friends are more hairless in that area. If I shave, will it become thicker when it grows back? or is that a myth..

Thanks in advance, guys. :D

How long before it grows back after shaving? do you shave your chest everyday?

Buy nair hair remover. Its easier than shaving. And if you shave give it about a week to grow back. the first couple times the hair will be very wirey but it will soften when your body gets used to it.

I would advise against shaving it because it will grow back more quickly the more you shave. Plus, you may be uncomfortable with all your stomach and chest hair but I can assure you that all of the hairless guys are extremely jealous of you. Just enjoy that you developed early rather than late.

Honestly I would try spending more time getting comfortable with my body than spending time trying to change it. Even if your camera doesn't show body hair well, it still doesn't look like you have enough body hair to even make a fuss about. I'm covered head-to-toe in hair and yes it can be embarrassing, but just try dealing with it. You're 16, you should be getting at that age where people won't criticize your body hair. They may make comments but in my experience they're usually good-natured. I did shave my chest once though, just out of curiosity. It itches growing back. I would just advice against it.

Not true.

Man, don't shave. I used to envy people with hairless chests, but having a hairy chest is the very definition of manhood. Enjoy it and like the poster above said, your friends are going to envy you because you're maturing.

By the way any hair you shave DOES grow back thicker and fast. Not so sure about hair removal products.

And plus, even if your picture had bad quality, I can still tell you're not that hairy. Just chill.

Buy nair hair remover.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Nair. I've also heard that hair might appear thicker when it grows back when you shave because shaving is basically cutting the hair at the wider base, and then when it grows out it is the base that is the new tip; hence, thicker looking hair. Not too sure about how valid that is.

If you really want to shave it, go ahead. Whatever makes you comfortable. But if you show up one day with clean-shaven arms and legs you might become a little noticed. Chest hair is probably a little easier to deal with, as you're probably not going to be out shirtless every single day. Ultimately, it's your body and you can decide what to do with it.

I know how you feel (kinda). When I was in elementary school, I used to get comments all the time about my peachfuzz (black hair + light face = 8-year-old with moustache). They were only remarks made in jest, like, "Wow, Andrew! You already have facial hair!" Regardless, it still made me self-conscious. And it had a significant impact. My parents didn't help - they didn't even bat an eyelid at such a "frivolous" concern.

It's normal for people to feel self-conscious. I personally have times when my self-consciousness is really bad, like I'm afraid to talk because I think my voice sounds weird, or afraid to wear shorts because my calves are huge, or even afraid to be more outgoing because of what I think might happen. In early middle school, I was a nervous wreck. But one day I realized, "Hey, I'm going to have to go through years of this stuff, and I don't want to be a shell of a person." Slowly - very slowly - I started throwing away my fears and allowed myself to be seen and heard more. And I saw an improvement in my perspective of the world. Granted, I still have times when I say to myself, "I don't want to answer this math problem because my voice is a little crackly today and so-and-so might say something," but then I try to shake it off and think, "Hey, these people neither care about nor have the capacity to remember anything 'bad' that 'might' happen. I might as well just answer the dang question."

I understand that body hair is a little different, but I want you to understand that it's your body and it's going to stay with you for the rest of your life. Sooner or later you're going to have to accept yourself in full, through and through and straight to the core. It's hard. I'm still trying to follow my own advice, and I probably won't get it right for several years. But I'm working on it.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I got carried away :whoops:

The "it grows back darker and thicker if you shave" is total bullshit. 100% myth.

It's really about how YOU feel. If you feel less self-conscious, and more sexually attractive with a hairless chest/abdomen, try shaving. Nair works great too, if you want to shave less often or avoid the stubble growing back. Just don't get it on your nips! It'll burn like a motherfucker.
