Okay, so I have no clue if I've ever made a thread like this before but if I did, it wasn't when this was nearly as bad.
I keep waking up unable to fully open my mouth. It doesn't really hurt if I try to, it just feels strained and won't. If I move my jaw around a bit, I can sometimes get it to snap back into place but that's incredibly uncomfortable. My dad always had the same problem and has previously told me it can't be fixed other than basically breaking your jaw. Um, well, I think it's kind of obvious why I wouldn't want that.
Problem is, I sing on a regular basis for school. Now, the jaw problem is both affecting my singing and getting it fixed would affect my singing and I'm not sure if it's worth it to actually do something about it or if anyone knows some small home remedies for it?
Thanks.
Darkness.

Ok I did a search on google and it turns out your not the only person that has this problem. Have you seen a Dentist about it? I'll do some more reserch about it and tell you if I find something.

that happens/ed to me as well. my doctor says it's normal, happens to a lot of people (even her). my mom thought I would have to go through some surgery to fix it, but we found out that it wasn't necessary at all
I remember my doctor said to avoid foods like gum or something and eat some other kinds of food to help the jaw. I'll need to quickly make sure what foods would help :S

I did some more research and you could have a Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD). See here (http://hwww.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/temporomandibular-disorders) to learn more.

Honestly, it was probably my orthodontist who made it worse. It's only been a pain in the last five years or so, after I got my braces off where they tried to correct my bite.
But thanks, Jess! Let me know if you find out what foods those are. I don't chew gum much so that's not a problem. My vocal teacher actually went through surgery for it but it's coming back anyway so I'm not sure if I'd want to.
It's just annoying now when trying to eat that my jaw clicks constantly and pops every so often. ><

the clicking and stuff should go away eventually. did for me. I experienced it for a while then it was suddenly gone...but yeah also I got some papers on TMD (I might have that as well)

Actually, I had the same problem for the past two years but it all subsided when I got my wisdom teeth taken out....other than that everything has been covered here, stay away from foods that require a lot of chewing.......

Thanks guys. :) I'll also mention it to my dentist the next time I see him which should be soon anyway and see what he says.

Agree with everyone above. Have you tried massaging it to relax it a bit?

I have actually. It doesn't really do much to prevent this from happening or fix it sadly.

isn't there a disease called lockjaw, sometimes caused by tetnis?

Yes, there is but I haven't exactly contracted tetanus and I do have all my shots. This has been a problem since I was a kid that got worse after my jaw was shifted by the orthodontist. :P Doubt it's that.

i heard that. but, maybe it might be lock jaw, but not caused by tetanus. have you asked a doctor about it?

If she had tetanus the jaw would be the least of her problems that she had to worry about ...
Its not Tetanus, your problem is common with people who have Orthodontic treatment.

By the sounds of it, it seems you might have TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder) I have this in my jaw and it is very painful.. You can get medical treatment for it like mouth pieces and seeing a chiropractor (not sure if I spelt that right) but I suggest you see a doctor or dentist soon, it could lock and not open and they would have to break it open, but if you get treatment it can improve and hopefully that wouldn't happen
