ACTA has been around for a long time, yet it didn't get any attention from the general public until now, in the aftermath of the SOPA protests. Opposing ACTA will be more of an uphill battle than SOPA is, since it's an incredibly secretive treaty that will affect the entire Western world, not just the United States.
Even though the U.S. and many other nations have signed the treaty, it has yet to be ratified (http://www.penn-olson.com/2011/10/04/acta/). There's still time to raise awareness about ACTA and its potential ramifications.

I'd actually heard about ACTA before the whole SOPA/PIPA issue came about, and yeah, it's frightening.

None of these will be likely to pass for at least a year now governments know how much people oppose them. We wont have to worry about this one yet I dont think.

Censorship is a bad thing, it's a form of control and not very democratic.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion, but I'm afraid you are a bit late in voicing it -- by about 5 months.
Please, don't bump old threads, find something newer instead.
