type 2 diabetes runs in my family, and i am not a very healthy person. i am fat, i smoke pot and occasionally drink, I don't exercise much, and I eat a lot. These symptoms started during xmas break. I'll list them below.

1. feeling like my head is floating, trouble concentrating, some visual disturbance, headaches, dizziness, basically, a loss of mental clarity in general.
2. bad blood flow to my feet
3. pain in my left arm
4. frequent thirst
5. big appetite
6. feeling tired all the time
7. all these symptoms get worse from things high in sugar.

Now, if I go to the doctor and it turns out I have it, what exactly do I do? My mom told me that if you go on a healthy diet and exercise, you should be ok. Which was the case for my great grandma, who lived to be almost 90 with it.

Yeah there are some symptoms there, you are a high risk of getting it due to your lifestyle habits, and also because it runs in the family genetics. See your doctor. If it does come back as you having it, then yes what you said will be the ground for treatment.

Yes, completely true, it could be so many different things, I would suggest talking to your physician. Let us know how things go....

Do you go to the toilet allot? Thirst and toilet are the MAJOR signs of diabetes. If you have sugar in your water (pee), then it will be a dark yellow when you go, and it will smell strong. If you have that, then see your doctor asap.

Symptoms 1, 2, 4 and 7 all sound like your blood sugar levels are way too high.

P.S. I have Type 1 Diabetes

no, my pee is the same as it always has been. I might get thirsty because I don't drink much while i'm at school.

If I were you, I'd clean myself up quick. Especially since you have time before you have to wake up every day for dialysis.

Diabetes is an awful burden, and alters your life. It's an unnecessary punishment because you can try to prevent it. I work with a lot of patients who have diabetes, and believe me, it gets to you.

Also, that pain in your left arm and dizziness can be VERY dangerous, and the next time you feel it start to get more intense, get help IMMEDIATELY. I know sometimes that symptoms can get easy to ignore because you get used to them, but that is never the right thing to do. Its always better to be safe, than sorry.

I bet you are one of those guys who goes on yahoo answers and tells people who are having a headache to go to the ER. Honestly man stop being such an alarmist, going by your logic i shouldn't even be alive.

Also update- my appointment is feb. 7th. I spoke to my mom about this, she knows a few diabetics and said that due to the fact that my symptoms started suddenly, and that I had a normal blood test result last year, that i probably have some other blood problem like hypoglycemia (low blood sugar, I have a cousin who has this too.) or insulin resistance (insulin resistance is a disease that can become diabetes if you do nothing about it, it can be cured too.) I also seem to quickly be getting better, which is great, because when i first got whatever this is I was very weak, and my asthma was acting up. But today i was able to run in PE again.

I'm just very cautious about health. Its a personal thing. Which is why I'm an LVN. My logic is if you feel something wrong, then tell someone. Its always the best thing to do. My cousin died from SADS not too long ago, which was very hard for me to accept, and probably made my fears even worse.

I can't help it.
