View Full Version : Getting pecs?

So in a week or so I'll post a picture of my physique to show what I'm dealing with. So I believe I have nice visible abs (I am not sure if it's just my eyes making me see what I want :P) but I have kinda fatty man boobs. When I breathe in I see my ribs but when I breathe out I don't. How long does it take to get pecs while exercising them once a week? What will make them visible? What are the stages of building nice pecs? Because only the area by my armpits sore/hurt. My middle chest region doesn't hurt or sore nor the area by my nipples. Why is this?

Taking photos of yourself regularly and storing them for future reference is a good way to show yourself how much you've progressed.
If you think only one area of your body is getting worked out, chances are your program isn't wide enough to cover other parts of your body. You may even have large abs but you'll need to sustain lots of cardio to bring down the fat that covers them. I've got that problem too, and I'm running up to 8km or cycling 30km six times a week, yet there's still some fat that covers my cheese grater :(

The chest area is one of the slowest to build muscle on, it sounds like you've been neglecting parts of your body when working out.
if i were you i'd start a full body routine, you'll see some good gains in the first couple weeks in strength if you're eating right. but i'm afraid it will take a while to get a strong and large chest.

The chest is not the slowest to build muscle. not to everyone. It's different from person to person.
If you want mass, then make 10 reps instead of 8 (that's what I do now). And heavy weights.
With the 2 extra reps, it gets alot harder, and you tear more musclefibers (you need to tear them in order to get bigger and stronger. This doesn't mean you need to feel some stretching of any sort. That's just what happens when you workout)

I'm wanting to build a lot of muscle so I can join football or soccer.

Just keep trying and working them out... Like everyone else said, it's the slowest muscle and it will take time!

Haha. What happened to the photo?
Trust me there aren't many guys in the soccer teams with much muscle at all. Not over here at least, we've got mostly great runners but little pussies up top.
If you aren't eating too much, a carb-heavy diet will do you good for a bit (with plenty of cardio exercise) to quickly raise your metabolism.

What did you do to get pecs? I'm starting a portion control plan of...
5 servings of protein
1 serving fruit
2 servings veggies
1 servings carb
1 servings condiments (like a teaspoon of ranch or whatever)
I've been exercises 1x a week for 3 weeks, I've been doing chest and back. And I've worked intensely every workout (I hurt my wrist so I can't this week).
I kinda have lost my "man boobs" I've never really had man boobs, it's just that it hasn't been as sculpted. I'm wanting to at least get a little bit of pecs by beaches season, because my families going to hotel del Coronado for 1-2 weeks this summer.
Oh and I didn't have time for the foto

By 5 servings of protein, how much is that? Specific quantity? I'm trying to aim for 100g a day but not really working with how lazy I get :P
I do take about 3 vege and 2 fruit servings though.
I'd step the workouts to 2x a week if you could and then build up cardio. I now do it 6 times a week. My bike ride was cut short to 17km this morning cuz of shitty weather, so I ran about 5km up a 15º incline at 13-14km/h this morning on the elliptical. Holy shit that was hard.
Get the photo going man. Even if you don't upload it on here, it'll be good to check back in a while to see how you've progressed.

One serving of protein is 3grams of chicken or something like that
I'll have to wait again till next weekend. I don't have the computer, I'm on my iPad.

3 grams of chicken? Are you a worm? or do you mean 3g of protein from chicken. you either make no sense or my mind just isn't functioning as it should be at 1:30am after a few drinks and god knows what else I shoved in my mouth tonight.

Hmm interesting.
I've been wanting to work my pecs up, but I don't have anything like "man boobs"
My normal workout routine has given me slight pecs already due to the variety of exercises I do. I want them to be more prominent though.
My friend knows a lot about working out and he says 3x a week minimum to get proper pecs on work outs, good luck with 1x a week.
I work out every day as I enjoy it, but I do different work outs each day.
I usually do three types of workouts - cardio, weights and ab/other body work outs.
I added my specific pec exercises to my ab/other body work routine, and find this with the weights works well in toning my pecs more with the two of them combined.
Also if you do cardio (jogging, cycling) try adding weight to a pack back.
I wear a hydropack on my workouts with 3L or 3kgs of water in it, plus another 20 of weight in there. Doesn't sound like much but you have to start small. This makes your toning of the body more aggressive, and toning should cover your whole body.
Good luck nonetheless, but maybe check some of your routine, if you have abs you should have slight pecs just as a part of working out. Obviously you're not working your whole body, and if that's what you want that's fine, but working all of your body is a lot better for you not only health wise, but you look good everywhere :)
Again, good luck.

You should just do loads of push ups. While the ad breaks are on, while waiting for a webpage to load, during a good song, anything!
I did about 20 per day (not at once) for about 20 days and I got some pretty good pecs.

Yeah. Mind wasn't working. Just lots of food, fat food, couple shots of vodka and jager. haha.

That's what I do. I set my phone to beep every hour on my chillout days, and when it beeps, I drop everything and do a set of pushups. I increase by one a day since last month, now standing at 39. I don't really do 24 sets a day, more like 3 or 4 but that works too :D

Does that really work? I've heard that you should do it all at once and only 2x a week. Hell, I like that idea better! (doing it every hour) :D

Well, I do 3 intensive workouts a week. My trainer says to give a whole day in rest between workouts and if I ever feel stretching or pain, give it two days.
The pushups work great. Push yourself to do one more, per set, every day (at least to build it up quickly). I'm gonna keep going till I can manage 100 in one go. I've seen people do it and yeah. D:
