So I was browsing around the Puberty forums and was asking myself:
"Why are all the same questions being asked?"
So then I thought, wouldn't it be a good idea if you needed to have, say, 25+ posts and be a member of the forum for about 10 days to start a new thread? A lot of the people that ask the same questions are new. And the thread on that same topic has been posted like, the day before, but they just cant be asked to look for it. What do you guys think?
They also do that on the XDA developers forums, it seems to work pretty well, and stops n00bs asking questions which have been answered.

Well, I can't really say if this can even be done because I know absolutely nothing about vBulletin but what I can say is I do believe I've seen this suggestion come up before.

In all honesty, I don't think that would deter anyone. They'd still post those questions as soon as they had the ability to. I think the mods deal with P101 perfectly well and if people keep asking the same question... *shrug* Maybe they just feel better about knowing someone is answering their question. No idea.

Also, the problem with that is, it obviously wouldn't be a rule for just the P101 crowd because you can't tell why people have joined. This would be an issue for the members who join to get support in a time of crisis who may not have the time (or the motivation) to have 25+ posts in ten days to get the help they need. This isn't so much in P101 as it is in the psych ward. I see people make their first post in the psych ward in order to get help and I'm pretty sure with that rule, they would just go to another site where they can post right away to get the support.

So it probably wouldn't work out too well in other areas of the site.

OK, sounds fair. Thanks for the feedback.

This is so very true. On top of that, people would also spam their way to 25 posts in order to start asking their questions and so, instead of dealing with moderating duplicate threads, we would have to be dealing with getting rid of every "I dunno.", "Sure.", and "Uhhhh" posted in the other threads.

Many people may join, and perhaps they are going to join with a super important problem that they need to ask. No one is going to want to sit their and twittle their fingers, answering other peoples super important questions, when they themselves have something super important to ask.

It just would cause chaos, and be un-needed. But a good suggestion, it's nice to know you care enough to try to look into a way to fix an over-population of re-asked questions. :)

VT is an advice forum. For advice. If we take the ability for people to ask for genuine advice urgently away, we have not fulfilled our aim.

Yeah, some people need help right away, which is something that, too be honest, I needed pretty bad, even though I didn't know how to start a topic. But, anywho..

This is kinda thoughtful, but.. it won't work.

I get the feeling that alot of those people posting in there are just either trolls or creepers posing as a girl/boy

If the website no one is trolling I would think its stupid uninteresting . So what's wrong troll in a website to read and go through every posts and see any r related?
