I heard somewhere that originally, any guy that had a pierced ear was thought of as gay. The right or left piercing was to signify being a "top" or "bottom."

It doesn't matter which ear you get pierced, if you're not gay then you're not gay. I've seen many very straight guys with the "gay ear" pierced. Pierce the one that you feel most comfortable with, or just pierce both.
