View Full Version : Confused as to why I got a Warning

Ok so I have received two warnings so far, both for "requesting or giving out contact info." The first time I asked someone if they had a yahoo or skype, so that one makes sense. However, today I asked someone simply if they "wanted to chat outside of here sometime" without giving or asking for any specific contact details. I figured that wasnt against the rules, as it is simply implying I would like to chat sometime outside of here. So anyway, I'm confused because we are allowed to list our skype, yahoo, etc in our profile, yet we cant give it out or ask someone for thiers. Doesnt makes sense to me.

You cannot ask for personal information in threads, PMs, or VMs. If it is listed on their profile that is OK.
If you want to talk to them off the site, that is between you two, and doesn't need to be advertised.
It also seems a little "strange" you would ask that in a thread.
Some people aren't comfortable with being contacted with people they've never met, so to ask them on the spot is rude also.
I suggest you talk with a mod, global mod or admin with any other questions.
From the FAQ:
Requests for Personal Information: Do not ask for the personal information or pictures of other members. The private messaging system can be monitored by administrators, this is to catch anyone abusing the system and not to destroy members' privacy. If a member asks for any personal information or pictures through private messaging on this website, that member may have their private messaging privileges restricted or completely disabled. If you receive any messages regarding any of this please use the report function on the PM system and contact the forum's administrators.
Soliciting Members: Soliciting members will not be tolerated. This includes requests for explicit pictures, webcamming, cyber sex, or physical contact. In addition, members may not request other members for their contact information. Members are strongly advised not to give out personal information to internet strangers.

As you can see, I'm no moderator, but my guess is that as the implication that you gave was that you wished to talk to the person through a medium not provided by this site, and showed some intention to go on to share details. Your best bet would probably be to bring it up privately with a staff member, for more specific reasons. Staff can be sent private messages (PMs) before you have 100 posts.

Well I mean both were through a visitor message not a thread, but I see what you are both saying.

Saying, "Let's talk off site" or something along those lines generally means (not saying you mean this), "Let's talk about things we shouldn't talk about here", which of course could be illegal, and that's discouraged.

This has pretty much been covered by the users above, hope that's clear now - any more questions, hit me or another staff member up :)
