Upcoming dance..

Hello, members of VT! It's been quite a while since I've visited this site. I missed you guise. I have a bit of a dilemma, but it's so petty I don't think that it even fits the word dilemma.

Anyways, here's my gripe. The girl I made a thread about for Homecoming ended up saying no and lying to me saying that she was going with her brother. I went to my friend's house instead and we ended up going to her house. Her brother (who I am friends with by the way)wasn't even there. She did have a date, though. She then made a remark while we were taking pictures about how I didn't have a date. Oh, the irony of that. Since then, I haven't really liked anyone and have become best friends with an amazing girl. Me not liking anyone, I haven't tried to make "advances" with anyone. I'm afraid that I'll be friend-zoned by the time I inevitably start liking someone again, so at the upcoming dance I want to be able to make sure I can "impress" the girls and somehow let them know that I'm not looking to be friend-zoned.

I am NOT a player. Those types of people I dislike with a passion. If I come up as one, please let me know. Also, even though I've been to many dances before, I still have no idea what to do. Can someone inform me on what to do? And actually how to dance?

Girls aren't my main priority, more like something that is important but not more important than school. Thanks for the advice though. How long should I wait, then?

from what i get, you want a girlfriend. if you want to and feel ready for it, then you should go ahead and get yourself one. in my opinion, you should invite the girl that you are now friends with to the dance, but just as friends at least for now. maybe get to know her more and ask her out. to avoid getting "friendzoned", just let girls know your intentions from the beginning. cant really know how to tell you that last part, i think you wont get what i mean.

I am in the same "dilemma," so I can't help you there. As far as dancing, look no further. This is how I think of it. You talk to girl. Dont talk to long, as she will get bored. Ask if hot girl wants to dance. Think about the song. Only go for it if the song is slow (I like that type better). If she says yes, place your hands on her hips. She will put her arms around you're neck or shoulders, and sway to the music. LET HER LEAD!!! She will probably know how to do everything. She might be the type of girl that likes your boner. Let me assure you, that you will have one. Adjust to this accordingly. Make out if desired, etc. The rest isnt my area of expertise. Good luck!

@sax: Thanks for the tips! Though I have slow danced before, I didn't know to let her lead. I don't think I'll be getting an erection while slow dancing...I hope not, anyway. Are there any other types of dances that are normally done? Or is it just jumping up and down waving your arms like crazy?

its up to you two then. you have to see if you are willing to possibly risk what you have now by being in a relationship. my advice would be go for it, but it seems you dont want that. hope you work everything out.

Don't wait for anyone, put yourself before these girls. I don't prioritize guys because every single one I've ever liked has wasted my time and turned me down, so I think fuck it I'm becoming a nun.

The third type is jumping up and down and waving your arms like crazy. Search "the Carlton dance" on YouTube. I did this in a dance off, and now my name is highly respected. I like making people laugh. Another good reference for that stuff is a movie with Kevin James and Will Smith. Smith teaches James how to dance, I just can't think of the title right now.

I'll be honest, I pretty much skimmed your post and all the responses because I'm watching a movie right now, but maybe something I say will help.

I think it depends on the kind of dance it is. I live in an area where our dances we take a date, and go with a group of several couples. I know there are also places where you basically show up and ask different girls to dance (only been to once dance like this outside of actual dance lessons I've taken).

You really shouldn't worry about friend-zoning a girl. To me its the most BS thing ever and I'm not about to go on a tyrade on it right now. Long story short, just be friends, when you want a girlfriend or want HER to be your girlfriend, honesty is the best policy.

As for the dance, it looks like your 14? I don't remember what grade that is (I'm 19 but started school early so im usually younger than everyone else, my knowledge is skewed) but every school dance I remember always went the same. You go, you dance with your date like an idiot (see "GRINDING") and have a ton of fun. When your date sits down or whatever, you find a good friend with his date and you partyboy her (stepping away before it gets TOO awkward) and in general do silly things and have fun. Make sure you've got friends around you in case your date becomes a sourpuss for whatever reason, because really she doesn't matter. Like Triceratops said girls are dumbfucks like everybody else, if she sees you having a great time shell either get over it, or have a bad time, and if shes your friend probably apologize later for being a debbie downer.

To impress girls at the dance just look fly, smell great, and don't stop having fun. Girls wanna be around someone whose having fun, they'll see you as likeable and confident. I don't really know you, or what kind of person you are. If you're a sort of a shut down and quiet person, let that change for one night and lower your inhibitions (mentally, not through alcohol!) because that's what people want at a social event like that.
