Man Without a Country
I really feel as though I'm a man without a country.
SOPA, NDAA, and millions of other acronyms
Encroaching on our rights, putting us on the fringe
We have millions going out and speaking and standing
All the while the president has stopped demanding
Congress to do its job
and instead starts fighting Boehner's "mob"
We have people occupying the streets
talking about something and no one is listening
It's a movement for progress and getting on the right track
Sadly it's going no steps forward and three steps back
It has all the passion and heart
but just can't seem to get a start
We have a government that once stood for something honest and pure
Except congress is no long for us, instead it stands for business' allure
It's no longer a government made for the people
Instead it's one in desire of a sheeple.
Where once we had a nation that stood for democracy
Now stands a welcome mat for corporatocracy.
We have a right wing that puts up a wall
That wants business big and government small
It wants pro- life but doesn't care what happens after
It cuts health care and social security with maniacal laughter
A wing that consists of bat shit crazy and bat shit crazier
And a spectrum where moderation becomes even hazier
We have a left wing with no back bone and can't take a stand
They just point out the faults and strike up the band
and celebrate because they didn't fuck up
they place all the blame in the republicans cup
What they don't realize is being a bystander
doesn't provide anyone answers
For years it's become a game of passing blame
Without much care for what actually happens
"It's your fault" say Republicans
Democrats reply, "No it's yours."
And then we wonder how we wound up in so many wars
We have Iraq, Iran and let us not forget our war at home
A war between classes, it's no wonder we can't find shalom.
The infuriating part is there's more than one answer
Except no one wants to listen and sees anything opposing as cancer
We need to stop taking sides
Once we do, progress will be made in strides
Because it isn't about what right or wrong
It's about all of us singing the same song
And while we all might be at a different pitch
We can all still live in harmony
Because even if we are all different
We can still stand together
And no longer fight the other and their mother
But until people can look past their differences
Talks of change and hope are nothing but sentences
We will always be standing on the great divide
Until we realize there isn't a right side.
It's that big grey area so many seem to ignore
One where compromise leads us to the golden shore
Unfortunately, this probably won't happen in a foreseeable future
Because right now we are crack no one can suture
And until we can all live in symmetry
We are all men and women without a country.
Here is something I wrote in the midst of an insomnia attack one night. It's a little rough around the edges and I'll probably go back and fix it and work on it. It's meant to be a slam type poem. Just curious about thoughts and opinions.
