Well, I'm a bitch, but I'm having some problems and this is a thing that goes out to all the members, mods and admins included, but mostly members. This is about the site and business.

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE REP GUIDE, YOU CAN STILL ANSWER THE BELOW QUESTIONS!
DO NOT vote no on anything just to start some 'controversy'

I need to figure out some things and decide how to proceed further with the Rep Guide. Here's a little questionnaire; the questions will have a sentence following them telling what the effect will be.

1) Should the Reputation Guide stay or be trashed permanently?

2) Should the Reputation Guide be split into two threads, one for the Quick Reference and one for the bigger complete Rep Guide? This will make people who have slower computers be able to choose whether they want the Quick Ref, shorter, or the Rep Guide, longer and harder on load time.

3) Should the Reputation Guide be advertised more? This will save some space in my signature while also publicizing the Rep system.

4) Should the Rep Guide be moved to some where more easily to see? Like the HQ (here)? This will help people notice it and see it more!

5) Should the Quick Reference (second post) be smaller than it is now? This'll make the guide shorter guide shorter than it is now, ensuring people will be educated on the Rep system.

6) Finally, has the Rep Guide been helpful to you in any way? If you haven't read it/some of it, don't vote!!!

Guys: as far as I know, the Rep system isn't going anywhere, so don't bitch about how it isn't being used or isn't that important. Besides, it doesn't need to be used constantly; just a few times a week is ok. Just because you don't get any Rep doesn't mean that it's not being used.
Just deal with it - if we can publicize it more, then maybe it will be used more!

Any other side opinions are welcome. Express yourself!

Orchdork has been added to my ignore list. I can't see the content of his posts, although I know he has posted. He's been a real ass lately!

Though I can see what's in quotes. So the reason I care is, I want to know what to do. My diary Cloud Nine is only there to host the stupid guide, it's not for anything else any more.

I feel like this is the only service I provide on VT. I feel that it's something I can take care of, stand up for, and help others with, since I'm not good at talking people through their problems.

I guess I should talk to someone on this site about it...but who can I really trust? :| Everyone seems to have their own problems to be depressed about and I feel like the only one who doesn't want to kill myself.
I don't feel like anyone trusts me so I put the guide out so people could see that I can be proud of some hard work...it took me 2 days to write the first guide...

Orchdork, you can really hurt someone's feelings. And you're staying on my damn ignore list.
EDIT: and orchdork, don't talk to Jess like that. >:0[

Double edit: Alex, it would be nice to hear your opinion on it.

Donnie don't talk like that! I's obvious that you've spent a lot of time making the rep guide, and it has helped a lot of people, people who have left, people who are still here, and it will help the new members when they join. You should be proud of what yo uhave sone and i think it should be advertised more, maybe made a sticky in VT HQ, also add it to the FAQ.

Also I trust you Donnie, you know we can talk about anything! You are doing a good thing for VT, and soe people are just too ignorant to see that.

I like the rep guide. Its comprehensive and I believe it is well written.

I think we could have it moved to the HQ maybe, get more views. Also a Global Announcement could help as well, because it would be nice to have the system used a bit more.

Orchdork, it's interesting that you voted the guide wasn't helpful and then you posted that it was.

Ok, decisions have been made - Alex and I talked. The guide is staying. It has now been moved to VT HQ and the Quick Ref has been completely reformatted. Other plans are popping up for it. A Global Announcement has been made to advertise the guide
All I can do is thank Alex for putting it in a place that it will really be recognized! Thank you! :)

On a side note, (edit) Alex, do you think we should split the Rep Guide in two, and in the announcement we can give members a choice? One bigger one, complete, and one smaller one, for slower computers?
And also change the name to Reputation System (Rep) so people will know we're talking about something that's on every page?

Whisper
May 27th, 2007, 10:16 PM
so you want two seperate announcements?
I dont think thats a good idea
I dont like having allot of announcements or stickies it looks like shit when you click on a forum and thers a ton of them
having one is good ya cause as long as we have the system we should have something that explains it
but i dont want two

MoveAlong
May 27th, 2007, 10:22 PM
Naw, not two announcements, just give them a choice inside the one to go to the shorter one or the longer one. That would require two stickies.
But that's cluttered too so the idea might just be trashed

Whisper
May 27th, 2007, 10:29 PM
you could have them as just two locked threads and then make an announcement and have direct links to each so they get basic info at the announcement and then they can pick which one and click the link that takes them to the thread

Thanks, I couldn't explain it *heh*

the reason the rep system isn't used is because we have no need for rep. gaining rep doesn't give us any special status or any more privileges than anybody else. Im part of another forum that the rep is highly used. In that forum, as you gain rep, you can add separate user titles under your user name, see and post in hidden forums, as well as having a bit more say in the community.

its a great system because everybody is striving for that user titles. Like under my name says moderator, say if i had the required number of rep, i would go under control panel and change it to king fresh or what ever...

Admins are the only ones who can monitor the reputation system so it would be pointless to make an infraction for (not that it's needed or necessary).

MoveAlong
May 29th, 2007, 12:20 PM
Ant's right, Admins are the ones to go to if your Rep has been abused.
The idea may work, but 'King Fresh' is waayyyy to cheesy :P

But I would like different user titles. When I reach 2,500+ posts, I don't want it to say 'VT Lover' for the next 2,500 posts >:0[

When you move over the Rep block on your post (green thing) it'll come up with a different sentence. The sentence represents how many Rep Points you have. The more Rep Points you have, the better things it says about you.

But alternate user titles might really be nice. Something to brainstorm about =o)

Aηdy
May 29th, 2007, 12:53 PM
I have 17 rep points in total! (The ones in the user cp)

And apparently i have growing potential! :D

DouggyO.o
May 29th, 2007, 01:45 PM
their is not really much of a way to abuse it. you can only give rep to somebody 1nce for a while, you cant just keep giving them rep, VB has that installed. u need to rep other people before you can rep them again. its a way to prevent abuse of the system.so basically, if you give rep to somebody, they are more likely to give rep back to you or somebody else.

so like now 0-10 rep could be titled User

11-25 rep could be like savior

26-40 hero

41-50 legendary

51+ could be a custom user title. so like i could put "Vt's FreshKing" or something like that

Although this method is better for image sharing forums, i could be used for posting as well.

On this forum i am part of, you share images back and forth, either to share or for requests. The rep standards are higher because it it used more often.
So like if somebody makes a request, and you find them the pic or pictures they want, they rep you.

Gennrealy this could work the same way but with posts.
if somebody has a question, and you answer them in a decent way they can either rep our take a way rep from you.

the overall concept could work if the members were willing to give it a try.

so like now 0-10 rep could be titled User

11-25 rep could be like savior approx 65+ members would aquire this title, maybe a different title

26-40 hero approx 30 would have this title, diff title

41-50 legendary approx 10 members, diff title

51+ could be a custom user title. so like i could put "Vt's FreshKing" or something like that 3 or so members

as well as some titles( mine were just examples for what could be used.)

I think you're confusing Rep Power with Rep Points. I was talking about Rep Points...I looked on a forum with people that had 3 blocks and they had 5000+ posts and 137 Rep Points. They were also a longtime member and had a Rep Power of 13. Reaching 51+ Rep Power happen when we're 35+ years old.

It would work a quantum leap better if we used this idea for Rep Points. See, currently, you have 7 Rep Power and I have 6. I have more Rep Points than you.

So, in a nutshell, what are y'all saying? To just totally get rid of both Rep Power and Points, just Power, just Points, etc etc.

If it were up to me, I'd probably go ahead and (if there was a way) make it so Rep Points were displayed under Rep Power (which I don't understand why they aren't now). Also, I would base it on the Points, not the Power. Points are a reflection on what the users think - Power is just what the computer tabulates...

i think the rep power should defenitaly go becuase no EVER uses it(the little saying) and the points just kinda tells how long you have been on the site. if you look at it the more often you are on the site and the longer you have been on the higher the points. so i think that that can go too

Orchdork, I have to read your posts because this is my thread.

So, in a nutshell, what are y'all saying? To just totally get rid of both Rep Power and Points, just Power, just Points, etc etc.

Also, I would base it on the Points, not the Power. Points are a reflection on what the users think - Power is just what the computer tabulates...

We'd have to get rid of the Rep system altogether if we wanted to get rid of one. It's a system - your Rep Power affects how much you can add/take away from someone's Rep Points. W/o Rep Power, your Rep Points can't change and w/o Rep Points, what is there a need for Rep Power?
Rep Points are probably kept private because some people have less than others. Some might feel bad about this. Those can only hope to improve.

Just because you don't gain Rep Points doesn't mean the system is at a standstill. You may use it barely...but it's still there. You might get some, you might give some. Best is to give when it feels right.

Rep Power is not JUST determined by how long you've been here. I have a Rep Power of 6 and 60+ Rep Points, and I've been here for 1 year and almost 2 months with 2,000+ posts.

I had a Rep Power of 4 when I had 40+ Rep Points and 1,500+ posts and been here for 1 year. When I reached 2,000 posts, I got 5 Rep Power. When I got 60+ Rep Points, I reached 6 Rep Power.
