Ok my fellow fitness junkies, and newbies. I learned this in a biology class last year, but just remembered it now, and I thought I would share it. It is just a helpful hint that will help out in every way possible when trying to lose weight.
So we all know that drinking water is healthy and important. Our bodies are made up mostly of water even! Ask yourself this: When you drink water, do you drink it cold, luke warm, or anything else?
Do you like to dirnk your water ice cold, with ice, and condensation dripping from the glass/bottle?
Drinking cold water has a great and important side effect.

Here is the science.
Your body must use energy to get liquids and foods to your body's core temperature at approximately 98.6 degrees. This energy your body uses is called calories. That is right. Your body burns calories adjusting your body's core temperature depending on how hot or cold the food and liquid you consumed. The colder the liquid you drink, the more calories your body has to burn to raise the liquid to the core temperature of your body. So if you want to burn MORE calories, you just need to drink COLDER liquids.

So here is what you do to have a greater effect in losing weight. .Drink as COLD of water as you can get it. (Don't skip on smart diet and excercise) A good tip is do chew on ice chips. Another cool trick is to just freez your water bottle, and let it melt and drink it while it's melting. It cannot get any colder than freezing.

I find I always have my water lukewarm as I am always active. It's easy to drink room temperature water whilst exercising. When I'm running I find lemon in the water helps stop stitches, which probably isn't best diet wise but whilst running its a life saver.

I might start drinking ice cold water when I'm not doing anything now and see how it goes.
Thanks for the info :)

Yeah makes sense, but never heard of that theory, sounds good tho, as cold water is always good after exercise - sucks if you like in a very cold climate ;)

Only problem with ice chips is they take so much energy they dehydrate you. Like snow. Otherwise neat little fact.

room temp water is best for hydration. cold water just doesn't do it as well.

I like filing it with ice then... admittedly... crunching on the ice. It's a wonder I don't have any cavities. [-]I don't even brush my teeth 90% of the time. [/-]

never knew this. however I can't stand cold water, especially if it's winter. I generally put in juice then warm water. :/
