ive just gone 14 and i have just over 4 inches erect and kindof worried if its small for my age.. on the other hand though i think i am a bit of a late bloomer. is this an adequate size because i know it is quite small

Your size is perfectly normal for a 14 year old. It's a difficult age for comparing because some guys are only just in the early stages of puberty while others may be well advanced. The guys replying above are not typical of 14 year olds, in fact they are not typical of adults so judge for yourself how to interpret that.

You probably are a bit of a late bloomer, a bit behind average for your age, but well within what is normal and nothing to worry about.

Ahh, dont freak you are still young and got another 3-4 years for it to get bigger. Most of my friends who are 14 including me have about 6.5" in. guys and im not kidding but everybody catches up eventually.

I turned 14 in April, and I'm about 5 - 6 inches hard. You're fine! We all have different growth rates. That's a pretty average size for 14 yrs. Plus, you have to remember, its teenagers and the internet. Not everyone is 100% honest ....
