Hey guys,
I've endured and gone through a solid 2 1/2 years of general 24/7 discomfort of having wire, titanium and all this crap in my mouth. I've had quite significant discolouration though, my teeth used to be pretty white, but a lot of it has turned a bit yellowish, particularly where the braces mounts were, and I've become two-toned :(

I've read that using whitening toothpastes for long periods of time wears down your tooth enamel which makes your teeth appear translucent while making it more vulnerable to decay and plaque, is that true? My orthodontist told me just to upkeep and maintain regular brushing.. he's also the same guy that told me removal wouldn't hurt "one bit" moments before I lost consciousness to excessive bleeding that came out of my gums (and they still kinda hurt :( )

Any tips? Suggestions?

I would say just keep up regular cleaning. I have had braces taken off a few years ago, so know what you mean with them not being how the used to (Currently have braces again), I just did regular cleaning 2-3 minutes morning and night, and it worked.

Also something to consider is just going to a dentist for a professional clean.

All the best :)

Go to a hygienist.

My teeth where like that when I had my braces off. I'm not sure exactly what they do, it's not teeth whitening, I think they just give your teeth a really good clean. My teeth are actually really nice now :P

So yeah, make an appointment with a hygienist :)

Hygienist.. haven't heard of any around here lol.
Josiah how come you've got them on again?

I've been to the dentist and she polished them a little after scaling and giving a general clean though, it kinda helped but didn't have much effect :O

I just want to avoid the porcelain inserts some people do since they crack quite a bit and I'm into contact sport..

Use baking soda and tooth paste and swish it around in your mouth

I used to use Crest Whitening Strips, now I just use Listerine All-in-one with Whitening mouthwash, it's much easier to deal with.

Go have a whitening specialist look at them. Most dentists can give you an assessment of costs and even show you what it would look like!

How do you "swish" toothpaste around? it's not exactly liquid lol. Do you mean just rub it into my teeth or something?

I got my braces off last year. Lovely teeth, but not very white. I get my teeth professionally cleaned three times a year. Doesn't help me. What did though was pricey, but worth every penny. I get my teeth bleached every two months and they are white as cotton :).

Yeah, your dentist will give your teeth a really good clean. When I got my braces off I went to the dentist shortly after and got my teeth cleaned - which made them look great. Give it a shot :P
