View Full Version : Broken foot?

Well..., 2 days ago on a barefoot run, I landed the wrong way and almost immediately felt extreme pain in the ball of my right foot. I rested a day and ran 3 miles tonight, assuming it was a normal thing, and the pain subsided somewhat around a mile and a half. After the run, that pain was worse than the level it was at 2 days ago. It's been very hard to walk the past 2 days and wouldn't the pain have subsided if I had a bruise? There is some redness by where the pain can be felt. To clear up any questions, I've been running barefoot on pavement and on the treadmill for the past 7 weeks targeting several races in February. Sure, I had normal soreness, but not anywhere near the pain I'm experiencing now. Could I possibly have a stress fracture?

Yes Possibly - Go to a Doctor.

I'm not sure if you would be able to handle the pain of running if you were to have a fracture, but it is possible. Like josiah said, you should go to a doctor immediately. Don't try to run on it anymore, it might make it worse; and you don't want to be in pain at the race! :) Good luck.

Where is the pain? It might be a torn ligimen if it's not excruciating. Though, I agree, go to the doctor. Nobody here can give you an exact diagnosis and even if they can a doctor has more experience with what to do about it.

Thanks for the advice, probably a muscular issue since the pain is at its worst 15 minutes to 2 hours past a run.

Yes maybe ligament damage, or a slight tear, however it is not unknown for pain from a fracture of a small bone in the foot to hide for awhile. If pain persists I still recommend a visit to a health care professional.
