Do you think speed cameras are their to make money or to save lives. I think that they don't save as many lives as we are told and that they are their to make money.

They're there for a good reason.

Both, they discourage speeding which saves lives and makes money at the same time. I fully support their use unless they have been placed unfairly (i.e. at the bottom of a hill where speed increases slightly)
Agreed.

I think they are good and effective.
Save lives + makes money that can benfit the economy = win win
Unfair is when they are placed at the bottom of the hill or are placed when road works are in place and then not turned off when they are out of work.

Have you ever thought, "Oh, there is a speed camera, I had better slow down so that I do not get a fine"?
No fine = no money
Just a thought

And then once they're past the speed camera, they speed up again champion.
It's been proven they save no lives. Statistics of accidents can even be higher.
For example, a speed camera is placed on a highway.
Cars are traveling at the speed limit or over, they see the speed camera and hit the brakes, even if they aren't speeding.
How is that safe?
It's revenue. No doubt about it.
If the government was serious about reducing the road toll, they would have more police patrolling.
Tell me, what would slow you down more? A camera that slows you down for 200 meters, or following a patrol car down that road sitting on the speedlimit?

You are not giving them revenue if you don't speed.
I get sick of hearing it.
If you are a fucking moron enough to speed, you deserve a fine!

I've seen a story where a speed cam caused a six car pile up.
Do not want.

Money makers imo, if they were genuinely used as a deterrent there'd just be the speed awareness course.......but no they whack a big fine on it too!
Also they don't work cos people slow for the camera and then speed up after it.....it basically just moves the accidents further down the road.
I havent been caught speeding yet btw.

Well yeah, if there wasn't a big fine people would speed.
Um, many of them are hidden, or around a curve etc.
It's great that you take pride in endangering people's lives.
Umm....people do still speed....regardless of the fine!
Also, they're not allowed to hide camera's, they have to be in plain sight. (For UK anyway)
And I don't intend to endanger other people lol, but is driving at a few mph over the limit really killing people? No it isn't. Plus 'leave earlier' isn't always possible. I often have an hour to drive to certain places and back, this means that slow people doing well under the limit are impeding me.....hence when I get to a nice clear straight bit of road I do have some time to make up. If everyone follwed the limits perfectly there wouldn't be a problem, andthere would also be less accidents......I mean on a 70mph road there is no legal minimum limit, so theoretically people can and do drive at 40mph!! In my opinion those people are much more likely to cause accidents due to the speed difference and other peoples very poor depth/speed perception than people driving atsay 75mph.
I don't condone being a c*ck and driving at 90mph through villages for example btw, I just feel the limits should be a bit less strict, especially at night or when the roads are empty, there really isn't any problem with driving at 80 or 85 on a motorway, however you would get a large fine and points if caught at that speed.

But for some, it makes them stop.
The limits are put there for a reason considering the area's factors.
They should be lower at night, you could hit someone who doesn't gave their lights on.
Do you know how many accidents there are on unrestricted autobahns compared to 70mph motorways? A hell of a lot less!! Its not the speed (infact they are considering raising motorway speed in the UK to 80mph), it's the incompetency of drivers over here that cause accidents, the test should be harder IMO!
If someone hasn't got their lights on in the dark they deserve to be hit!! It's illegal and stupid for them not to have lights on.

I haven't seen any in my area yet, but I hear it's in the works.
I think it's a good idea in some places like school zones and other high traffic areas.

In Tassie, we have mobile speed cameras, which are operated by non police people in unmarked cars. Most people assume that its just an ordinary car parked on the side of the road.

I seriously think that they are more to make money, but also to create the illusion of a responsible, controlled and protective government, thus indirectly making money because taxpayers are willing to pay more to support said "good" government. Governments are pros at mindfucking.

Most people just slow down for the camera and speed up again. Waste of time

Agreed! Don't drive like a maniac in the first place and you won't have to worry. It's not rocket science.
