What brand/model of headphones do you have? Do you think that it's reasonable to spend a lot of money on headphones?
Right now I've got klipsch s4i earbuds in my ears

I own some type of Sony, but it's definitely not worth spending a lot of money on headphones.
Simply not true. Spending a good amount of money on certain headphone brands is totally worth it. Bose makes headphones that are worth their 100 to 150 dollar price mark. Same goes for Audio Technica. But spending a hundred dollars on a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre is fucking stupid.

I'm an audio snob without a whole lot of money. I'm probably ordering a pair of Bose headphones in the next couple days, and maybe a pair of Vic Firth isolation headphones for those times when you need a good excuse for ignoring your parents. Beats audio is coolish, but not worth the 300 dollars for the studio headphones. Now that's stupid.
For earbuds, I'm less picky; my current pair are Sonys, but they're starting to fizz. Earbuds are next on my list.

I have Beats dr dre black solo's (over the head). I love them and although they cost £150 i'm so glad i brought them. i have an ipod nano 6th gen so it doesnt have games on it and it was an upgrade. i'm addicted to music so its better to have great headphones that have a great bass than an ipod that you can play a few games on.

Totally agree! I hope quite a few people read this because I'd love to save them from that death trap of celebrity endorsed headphones! If your reading this some good brands (worth every penny you ought to check em out) are v-moda, shure, klipsch, Bose, bowers and Wilkins (not the C5's but the p5's are awesome) and plenty more! Just think that with the mad amount of money we spend on iPods and music, why not get some headphones up to par?

You think? I've listened to my friend's BOSE headphones before and they sounded exactly the same... maybe it's just my un-trained ear.
Probably right about the untrained ear. I'm a musician and have a "trained ear" and understand exactly what I'm hearing should sound like.

I dislike beats, they dont sound much different to normal headphones and i dont like how they look. and im sick of seeing people having them around their necks purely to show that they can afford over-priced headphones.
I have skullcandy ink'd. The bass is so strong and awesome. I love them. and they fit my ears perfectly.

It's the tiny differences that make major improvements when it comes to headphones. Not everyone hears them because not everyone really cares how the music actually sounds.

Skullcandy's are nowhere near real Beats by Dre (maybe near the fake ones, but not genuine ones).
I went from Sennheiser to Beats (studios), and while admittedly the Beats don't sound as good as top Sennheisers, they are a very good headphone, price excluded. They are overpriced, but I can pay that and I will for a good performing and good looking set.
I also use Marshall Minor in ear earphones when I CBF'd with over the head Beats.
I use Marshall gear for my guitar playing and these are also great earphones.

I really don't have problem with headphones that costs around 30 to 70$. They are good quality headphones. But 300$ 500$ for headphones? That's fucked up, if you tell me.

As for headphones, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros. Which are, amazing.
For my (in-ear) earbuds though, I'm currently using Zune's Premium headphones, which are okay, they have issues with bass (Little to no bass, muddy bass when it's there), but that can be fixed by playing with the EQ.
I do plan on getting a better pair though, most likely by either Klipsch or Sennheiser.

It all depends on what you want. With good brands of headphones, you basically get what you pay for, and depending on what you want determines how much money you'd want to invest.

A good pair of headphones will last a LONG time if you don't put em through the wash or things like that. You may end up spending more in the long run with replacing pair after pair than actually investing in a descent pair (which varies from 20-40$ to 80-100$ depending on what you think is "descent") so consider buying something nice

i dont' think it's a waste to spend on them. Depends on how into music you are. I like music, but i don't need noise cancellation or great base. I don't abuse mine apple ones, but i don't really try to take care of them. When i'm done with them they get wadded in a pocket or back pack. If someone forgot theirs, I loan them mine and have more at home. If I had nice ones, I'd probably not loan them and it's be another thing I'd need to "be careful with" according to my parents and frankly, i got enough stuff to be careful with in my life.

It's your choice what you want to buy, and if you don't want Beats don't get them.
But don't get these headphones and expect the world of them, they are $16 and aren't a well known brand. You'd be better off going for some cheaper versions of well known brands, such as Sennheiser, Bose, Klipsch, Bowers and Wilkins, etc. Even try skullcandy if you must. If you want a pair of cheap over head headphones and don't care for sound, they should be fine.

Dre Beats (and Bose alike) are overpriced and over hyped. No studio producer (not bought over by Dre) or audio engineer would endorse the headphones as audiophile cans. The headphones are just too bias on the lower frequencies ; which in term interfers with the reproduction of the whole sound spectrum. But if you are content with being a walking billboard like everyone else..that's another story..
There are more cost effective alternatives like Sennheiser, Sony, AKG etc

No, I disagree. Buying from REAL BRAND like AKG/SHURE/A-TECHNICA/Sennheiser are generally worth the price. But spending $300 for Beats Pro is fuckingly insane. They doesnt sound any better than $50-70 JVC or shure. What beats and bose make for $150-200, others like JVC and Panasonic. do better for $30.
Okey back to your question. Spending $500 on Sennhehser may sound stupid to you but i've listened to HD650 and HD600 MAN !!! They sounds so good that i can't express in words. I'd listen to them all day long rather than having sex with Katy Perry.

I forgot to mention that I am a proud owner of s4i's (hopefully will get some Ety's) and HD 598's. I do not plan on upgrading my sennheisers anytime soon due to the skyrocket in ohms for the <600 series. It would be a $700 investment easy because they require a decent amp to run at full potential.
Keep in mind that if you are spending $500+ on headphones then you better be listening to music in lossless audio formats like FLAC or ALAC. Listening to shitty 320kbps mp3s on these audiophile cans will only make them sound shittier..

How many of you people have actually tried Beats outside of your local 'Walmart' with all your little friends around you saying they're crap because that can't afford them?
Honestly, I paid less for my Beats than my Sennheisers, and whilst the Sennheisers didn't have such punchy bass they didn't have any more clarity.
That being said, my little Marshall in ear headphones are absolutely brilliant, but it you want decent over head phones, you have to be prepared to spend more than what the Marshall retails for.
If you listen to Rock, and dare I say it, Hip Hop etc Beats are great. Of course your Beethoven sounds bad on Beats, they're not made for that type of music!
Why do you think Beats are endorsed by Dr. Dre?

Whoa there. If you're talking about beats then I agree with you, but if you're talking about general headphones in the upper market value region then I think that comment definitely a presumption. Have you ever listened to some Grado's worth that amount or higher through a stereo and maybe an amplifier attached? I guess not. And they are definitely not fashion statements nor do they display a high value to them. Yet they are one of if not the best sounding things you could wrap around your head. Every detail, every nuance comes out clear and you hear exactly what Dre's beats claim they hear. It is like wearing a pair of can's in that exact studio they're recording in to listen in on the session.
Just because they're expensive doesn't make them a brand oriented costly kit. They do have some some serious stuff going on inside.

Beats build quality is really poor. They snap really easily. So, I cant agree with your comment that they're well made.
And you can get same or even better sound quality from Sony XB500 which costs only $50. If your're fine with paying five or more times extra just for their look then I have nothing to say.
How many of you people have actually tried Beats outside of your local 'Walmart' with all your little friends around you saying they're crap because that can't afford them?
I did.
Several of their models.
Sound quality on all of them is mediocre at best (regular beats are easily outperformed by $80 audiophile headphone.). Muddy bloaty bass that has no texture, extremely recessed mids, bad highs and an overall dryer and muddier sound as well as being way less dynamic. the beats pro sound a tad bit better but definitely are not worth the $400 dollar price tag as any audiophile can over $200 will cream them even if you amp the beats and play the audiophile can on an ipod. Even my Shure SRH 750DJ sounds much better than those which I bought for around $180 ($100-120 in USA But in my country they're priced much higher).
They are mostly a fashion accessory like skull candy and are expensive because of the dr. dre label/style.
People only buy them because they aren't aware other products exist which best buy and other major retailers don't carry.
Honestly, I paid less for my Beats than my Sennheisers, and whilst the Sennheisers didn't have such punchy bass they didn't have any more clarity.

*sigh* i give up with you people, can you just take 2 seconds to look at my points? One yes i like the design and the colour so you can judge me on that but w/e i dont care, two it blocks out everything around me which i love and three it has a really great bass which with my music is all i really need.
lots of people have said skull candys are great and cheap but i got some Skullcandy Lowrider black and gold and they were not even 1/10 of what beats are. They boke within a month, i got a new pair, they broke within 2 weeks. The sound quality wasn't that great and it didn't block any of the outside world. And also all my apple in ear headphones (so have my dads) and together we have had about 7 pairs.
so i dont think you can go on about the build quality being good with any set of headphones because everyone has had different experiences and like different music.
