I have this friend who decided out of the blue on a Monday to just not eat her lunch. Instead of doing this subtly, she just announces while the rest of my friends and I are eating our food "I'm not going to eat because I'm getting fat." Of course everyone at the table just stops talking, I think all of us didn't know how to reply to it. It took a few minutes, but all of us finally started telling her to eat her food because it wasn't healthy what she was doing. The majority of us at the table (besides one guy) had either not talked to her since grade school, or was new..so, we really didn't know this girl too well. Then, the next day, her group of friends that have known her for a few years come up to me, and all of the other kids in our grade telling us to get her to eat. By day 3, she went back to eating with no issues. I guess I'm glad that my friend was upfront about what she was doing, but the whole situation is just kind of weird for me that I can't help wonder if she's doing this for attention. Already this has happened about three times in the last three months. I've had another friend who was anorexic too, and she didn't announce to the world that she wasn't eating. I also had another friend who decided not to eat for a few days either, and she didn't tell anyone (until months later when she and I had a sleepover and we both confessed to doing the same thing).

What do you guys think ?

I don't have a disorder myself but my girlfriend has one. Judging from what you've said i wouldn't say she does, eating disorders are not something you broadcast to people even those close to you let alone people you don't even know and I don't think she'd be able to go back to eating normally that quickly. Its subtle, not an on the spot decision like shes made it seem.

Why would she announce that she is not eating lunch. if she did have an eating disorder (which i don't think she does) than she should've kept it inside instead of drawing attention to herself.

When you have an eating disorder you do not announce it to the world. As soon as you announce it people start trying to force you too eat. They guilt trick you into eating and they make things a whole lot worse. If she was serious about not eating she would have realised that to be most successful you have to keep it quiet. The fact she announced it shows it was for attention. The fact it only lasted 3 days does too... I wouldn't worry about her.

I have been an anorexic binge-eater for about 3 years now and i can say that she is doing this for attention. One does not simply belt out that she is fat and going to stop eating. I believe it was a more impulsive decision rather than a disease that is consuming her. People with eating disorders try to protect their diseases because the illnesses are the closest things to them. They are what keep the person "sane" in their own way because it is the best thing they have to get themselves to "perfection". This friend of yours does not have an eating disorder.
