OH MY GOSH I AM. SO FREAKING EXCITED. I just read the books for the first time. Read all three in five days. They were great. Cannot wait to see it come to life on the big screen! I hope they don't screw it up. What's something you can't wait to see in the movie?

They really were fantastic, weren't they? I only hope they can capture the quality of the books in the movie(s).

yeah i was not liking their actor choices in the beginning. because in the books peeta is kindve weak and not muscular but the picked an actor who is has muscles.
and what were the ages of them in the first book? werent they young? like maybe 15 or so? and these actors are like 20? yeah i guess they would be able to act better than kids but makes it less like the books

Actually, in the book it's noted that Peeta is stocky ("of solid and sturdy form or build; thick-set and, usually, short," in case you are unaware) and has the muscles necessary to heave around heavy bags of flour.
wow I haven't read the book in years, how do I remember that
I read the book a couple years ago, when the movie was just a rumor. I'm definitely going to see it.
My English and Creative Writing teachers love The Hunger Games to death. It's quite comical to see them bouncing around the classroom after repeatedly watching the trailers on YouTube.

Well... actually, peeta isn't weak. He's well built from being a baker's son. I didn't originally like how he was casted either, but its grown on me. he's really well built and good-looking. Katniss was casted well, and I think I like how gale was casted. I think cinna looks a touch too masculine, but that's based on one shot of him.
They were like 17. I think they match the ages fine.
That is definitely good advice.... wish someone would have told me that!

The second one was just as fantastic as the first, possibly even better than the first. The third one was a little slower but still great. You definitely need to try and read all the way through them... its worth it.

yeah i loved the first book as well. the 2nd yeah wasnt the greatest, the beginning was with all the wedding planning was kindve boring and it just dragged on. but the once they got sent to the capital for the the games it just picked up and i enjoyed it very much and my favorite moment was when katniss wrote cinnas name on the dummy she hung, such a powerful statement. and the 2nd ended with a great cliffhanger that made me wanna read on to the next one. and i thought it was so action packed it just made for a fantastic book with great emotions. and the ending wow fantastic

I'm currently on the last chapter and although it seems evident that peeta has his heart in the right place, I just never came to trusting him and still don't. Gale sounds beast and has had and still has my full support. If only Katnip saw it.

I've got a funny feeling that the movie is going the butcher the book. And from the start I hated Peta's guts so the 2nd and 3rd books I didn't like too much.

I finished reading it yesterday an it's safe to say my dislike for peeta is confirmed. I hope Katnip settles for Gale in the end.
But I really hope this series doesn't turn into a twilight. It's more than just ridiculous romance and crap.

The Hunger Games are my 2nd favorite series ever, only ones that beat it are The Mortal Instruments. These books were great, I remember I got MockingJay the day it came out, stayed up til 2 am reading it and then was unable to fall asleep because of how much the last few chapters got to me.
Anyways for the movie, I feel the casting was well done. I think that Katniss could've been a little less beautiful but she's still good. Effie is friggin awesome, Cinna is good. Only disappointment to me is Woody Harrelson as Haymitch. I love Woody Harrelson, but I dont think the costume department designed him well. Might just be me.
I am happy to say I will not be seeing this with my friends, instead Ill be doing Dinner and a Movie with my Momma because she reads almost as much as I do. Almost.
Oh and Finnick was the best character of all time. OF ALL TIME.

im so excited but im also really pissed. My class was planning to go see it with our teacher, but then we found out that it had to be "pre-screened" by someone. And apparently, this takes like a shitload of time, and it almost never happens. So what we are thinking of doing now is either skipping school and seeing it, or going right after school.

Am I the only one who really didn't like that movie? I just didn't care about the characters at all, and the reason I liked it as much as I did was only because I know them so well from the books. I liked how they handled the plot, the extra scenes, and the violence, but the characters got a resounding "meh" from me. You just don't know any of them... You don't know why (or even if) Katniss doesn't like her mom, you don't really get the sense of her love for Prim, you don't really learn anything about Gale beyond his name. Honestly, the only characters I liked were Haymitch and Peeta. Haymitch, though, had the same issue I have with Katniss in the movie. They just don't go one way or another. Haymitch is a terrible drunk, but a good person under that - in the movie he isn't really either one. Katniss is part badass and part loving sister, but we don't see a whole lot of either.

Watched it today. It was amazing. They had some minor differences between the books and the movie, but, these differences were fine. I've seen other book to film movies do way worse then this did, Percy Jackson as an example. Rue's death was as sad as the book. I had to hold myself from crying... haha! People are around! Ugh, Rue's death was always horrible... book & movie.
I can't wait until the second one. Release date is November 22, 2013 so far. It may change. Let's hope sooner.

Spoilers, read at own risk.
The movie was okay, but it suffered in a few aspects that kept it from being great. Mainly, the movie wasn't handled well enough for the important characters to become developed. I think this could have been changed by removing all of the unnecessary stuff in the beginning.
The movie should have began right at the Reaping, or started with her hunting and them cut to the Reaping to give the movie an extra 10 or 15 minutes of content later and minor cuts should have taken place to get more time, for instance the training and other parts where they aren't doing anything. This extra time should have been used to develop Haymitch and Rue. Like others have said, Haymitch is supposed to start out very unlikable and end up an endearing character and Rue is supposed to be one of the most important supporting characters. Her death is supposed to hurt the characters in a believable way, as well as hurt the audience. This extra time with Rue would also explain why Katniss is so good at surviving.
The second is that the filmmakers had to water the film down for the target audience, which is ironic because most of the target audience read the book and know how violent it is. People get fucked up in the book, but in the movie it's mostly just shakey-cam and cutaways. The brutality is the most powerful aspect of the book, and it's just impossible to to outside of an R-rated film.
Third is that at the end they should have kept the mutant creatures instead of replacing them with dogs. They could've even made them zombies to solidify the concept in the audience's mind. The point of that was to show just how cruel the government is and that they need to be stopped. Combine this with the extra development of Rue for some really powerful cinematics.
My final qualm isn't with the film, but with its fanbase. Holy shit people, this is not a romance series and the character's romantic relationships have basically no importance to the plot. It started as an underdog story and went into a Rebel Alliance down with the Empire plotline. All this crap about Peeta and Gale is turning potential fans away from a series that's legitimately good.

yeah i thought the movie was fantastic although the ending i thought could have been more from the book like the tributes turning into those creatures who finish the game.
rue's part had to be my favorite. you can tell they spent a lot of time on that to make it right and to make it stand out

I saw it opening day, and it was AMAZING!!!
All though, I wish they had kept the part where Katniss drugs Peeta to get the medecine :) I loved the whole cave scene though, it was so sweet. And the actress who played Rue deserves a supporting actress award or something. The acting was really great from all of them actually...

Those were dogs in the ending, but they didn't say whether or not they resembled dead tributes. They probably weren't though, considering the fact that they all seemed to have had the same colored fur.....

I already posrted this somewhere, but yeah.. its my opinion...
havnt read the books <--- I have to admit that.
honestly, I think its pretty great.. I cried, I screamed, it made me happy, it made me angry.. basically it fucked with my emotions. It was cool...
My only issue with it is its like there is a hidden meaning behind it. At the start you think the people in the capital are discusting and the whole 'hunger games' is preety gross and inhumane. But during the movie it would be a lie to say you didnt get drawn in and entertained by the whole killing eachother thing. There was the people you supported and the people you wanted dead, you got upset when the little girl dies and you cheered katniss and the fella on when they killed the other guy. What I found afterwards is that it was entertaining then I felt slightly guilty. If you really think about it, watching it is exactly what the people in the capitol are doing... as a veiwer it makes you most relatable to one of the rich people in the capitol, the only differences are for us it isnt real.
I dont know if that makes any sense. But its just my thought on the movie

Umm...no. She's in the movie for like 5 minutes. Their character interactions are among the worst in the film because everything about them seems forced. It's obvious that they didn't spend a lot of time on that part and completely screwed it up.
