Katy Perry and Russell Brand filed for divorce

Katy Perry had arguably the best year of her career in 2011, but now something in her personal life may mar those accomplishments forever: Russell Brand, her husband of 14 months, has filed for divorce.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," Brand confirmed to USA TODAY via a statement. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

TMZ reports that Brand filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences." The split comes just weeks after the couple vigorously defended their marriage against rumors of disharmony

I personally don't see the big deal. Divorce happens all the time. The only thing that makes this one any different was they were well known people.
