It sounds like fat to me, you can see it sometimes, make sure you clean those cuts

That white stuff is called Adipose tissue. Adipose is the body fat, of course, that is found just beneath the skin at a deep enough layer that means you probably need something to close the wound or, as it happens, you'll end up with some noticeable scars.

Well, that can work. But tape, or something along those lines are good for the gaping small cuts. The ones that you could stick the edge of a penny in, that are wide and you can see the white beneath. That's when you take the tape and place it on one side (Thoroughly wash the cut) and pull the cut closed.
I've made the mistake of leaving a very very deep cut open before, one that might have needed stitches. It leaves narly scars.

Maybe you should work on stopping cutting yourself. And to fix those gaps buy butterfly band aids. You can buy them in the supermarket and they work really well. I accidentally sat on a scissors once (dumb, right?) and I saw a lot of adipose tissue before I was done... and blood, gore, etc...
