View Full Version : How secure is your password?

Go here (howsecureismypassword.net) and type in the longest most complex password you use. Don't just type in random keys! Use a real password! I don't want to get in trouble so don't tell me your password or what web site you use it on (common sense herp derp), just post how many years it would take to crack and how many characters are in it.
(If you want to know how long your years are go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_large_numbers).)

My computers password (42 characters):

Password for online accounts (19 characters):

Of course, it depends on what kind of hash they're using, whether it's salted or not and whether or not I'm using a rainbow table. Let's be honest here, if you have a 30 character password for you Windows box it means absolutely nothing. Secondly if you enter your password into that site, who's to say it's not just a honeypot making rainbow tables of your passwords in different hash types?

On another note, my TrueCrypt volume (AES+Serpent) is ~40 ChArAct3rs! (AKA Alpha numeric, upper, lower, and special characters). Really though, it's unnecessary.

Oh and PS thanks for the negative rep haha

By that you mean it adds a salt correct? Or just a different encryption or hashing method.

Oh and to whoever it was, thanks for the negative rep

The most secure one I use, one I use on a different forum: About 1 quintillion years
My WoW password: About 169 days (and it's a random string of numbers and letters I made up after first getting hacked with the first password that is About 3 hours. The rest of my passwords aren't random)
The second general password I use (when my first general password is too short): About 21 thousand years
The first general password I've used since my Neopets account when I was in primary school that I still use to this day: About 19 seconds
The password to my computer (I just live with one other person so it isn't like I need one): Common Password: In The Top 7,890 Most Used Passwords. Your password is very commonly used. It would be cracked almost instantly.
