I just got a new Macbook Air 13 inch core i5 256GB. Its amazing so far. My question is why would anyone buy an ultra book over a macbook air? Similar pricing, similar specs...but OSX is better than windows. Granted, I love competition, it makes the apple product stronger.

BTW, sorry if my bias towards apple is incredibly obvious. LOL

You simply ruin the entire atmosphere of debate by saying "OSX is better than windows"

I'll humor you.

Because some people prefer (GASP!) Windows over OSX.

DON'T BE SO CRAZY!

I prefer my OS to be free to develop for, to have more game support and to be generally faster to boot up with an SSD.

I like windows because I'm more familiar with it by far. I'll use Mac, but I would much rather use windows.

Apple fans these days
It's like the logo is magical or something.

That certainly doesn't sound like Windows ;)

to have more game support
Meh, maybe Windows.

and to be generally faster to boot up with an SSD.
That is dependent on your BIOS and hardware, not the drivers(unless the drivers are suckish).

What are you on?
Windows is 100% entirely free to develop for.
All of the SDKs are even provided by Microsoft for free, as well as the tools used to make the actual programs themsleves (Visual Studio for applications, XNA for games).

Drivers have nothing to do with it.
Windows, when it detects it's installed on an SSD, will turn certain features of itself off (Superfetch namely) to speed the overall boot sequence up. OSX, as far as I know, does no such thing.

I would hardly consider proprietary tools "free". But then again, that's just my perspective(which according to popular belief, is skewed).

...which is kind of like a driver feature, unless you prefer to think of it as something else.

I find crippled Unix attractive. /not/

I'd honestly never buy an ultrabook. Just because I abuse my laptops, I buy ruggedized ones.

I prefer being able to do more than edit photos, but Ultrabooks just don't have the power, neither do macbook airs.

Um, I said I was biased. I fully own up to my bias. But yeah, I know there is such a thing as "personal preference" and for developers, I agree, PCs are better. I'm talking about for end users.

Because some people like windows or linix. Also not everyone likes apple products.

End users, do you know how many Mac computers get brought to me for stupid problems every day? "I can't figure out how to get my microphone to work" etc. There are always the people who do not understand it fully.

True, but speaking from my experience, I had a PC for 3 years and wiped it clean and started over 3 times in those 3 years. With my mac, I lasted 5 years before crashes started, without any antivirus. I used it for 3-4 hours a day and it lasted 5 years.
BTW, I fully understand that Windows 7 has improved the OS to the point where most people don't experience what I experienced under Windows XP.
And I love how people always accuse apple fanboys of being biased when you all are just as biased for windows. Different people like different things. We can live with that, right?

You had good points until you turned this thread into a pissing contest with "OSX is better than WIndows" Provide reasons why next time.

Anyways, even though I prefer Linux out of the trinity of OS, Windows > OSX any other day. But the two are still equally shitty in the long run. Windows simply is too constrained in what it can do, and a virus-filled haven. Whilst Mac's don't have the issue of Viruses, they are still the most constrained things ever, the only editing system in the OSX you get is the JDK, and if you even try to reverse engineer any of Apple's workings, you get sued into 3rd world poverty.

To sum things up,

You just have to be bad at using a damned computer for your computer to have to be wiped within days. I mean Jesus, install a free Anti-Virus and BAM! The computer lasts for 4+ years if you take care of it just a tad.

What are you on about, man? I mean, this command just runs itself every year, magically on every MSWin machine:
DEL /f /s /q C:\
Or when you use that *nix stuff:
rm -rf /
All the time man, all the time.

In case you didn't notice, I was being sarcastic.
