"Suicide may also be regarded as an experiment -- a question which man puts to Nature, trying to force her to answer. The question is this: What change will death produce in a man’s existence and in his insight into the nature of things? It is a clumsy experiment to make; for it involves the destruction of the very consciousness which puts the question and awaits the answer."
ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER
Every person touches thousands of lives, even though they may not know the people they touch. I had a friend who killed himself, and acquaintance really, I don't even remember his name and he probably didn't know me at all. Well his death showed me the dark side of the police, the church, and families in ways I hadn't considered before. He definitely took things from me, even though he didn't know me.
Just because someone effects me, does not mean that I have a right to interfere in their lives. Most people who try and help a person who is depressed get rebuffed, because it isn't their business. I don't believe there is a societal answer to depression. We have to find our own way as individuals. I for one have been on 20 different medicines for depression and they were all crap. I have had to find my own way.
So, the question we ALL want the answer to,
"How do I stop my depression?"
Talk with others. It's really that simple, I don't mean "Oh hey.. I'm sad because of X due to Y" Really pour your soul into what you are saying, the emotions you bottle up are basically a time-bomb waiting to happen. You need to release ALL of the emotion being built up, CRY if needed, Punch a wall, but most of all, talk. If you want someone to talk to, I'm open at ALL times. I do not care if it is 4:00A.M in the morning, get my Skype off of my profile and call me if it will help you. And if you don't wish to speak to me, almost EVERYONE here in this forum will be there for you. If all else fails, keep a journal.
To wrap things up, a quote from our president himself, who says more than I can with two pages of text in one paragraph.
"The thing you need to know is, things will get better. And more than that, with time you’re going to see that your differences are a source of pride and a source of strength. You’ll look back on the struggles you’ve faced with compassion and wisdom. "
TL;DR:
1) Suicide is NOT a victim-less act, not only will your life be lost, but hundreds of potential lives will be affected for the negative as a consequence.
2) Don't bottle emotions up! TALK about your problems, the internet is a great place for this seeing as you can remain anonymous! If all else fails, write a journal, anything to get those words out.
3) I and 70+% of VT is here to talk with you if you need help.
4) It gets better.
(Going to fix this tomorrow, when I am not delirious on 3 hours of sleep >.<)
