Okay, this might sound kind of stupid haha but here's a summary of ideas I have so far for a story I'm writing (sorry it's not an actual excerpt, I need a certain idea before I can write anymore)
Basically there's a girl, Ella, and a boy, Jason. The prologue is from Jason's point of view. Ella's gotten tickets for a local concert of a band they don't yet know but were slightly interested in checking out, but neither of their parents are home and able to drive them. Ella convinces Jason to drive them, although he doesn't have his license yet and isn't fully confident. On the way back (it's night and very dark), the heater goes out because something is wrong with the car, but they don't realize it although Jason finds the cold slightly ominous. They're more or less lost, just driving along until they find something to help them get back on track. Ella wants to call someone, but Jason doesn't want to get them in trouble and acts more confident than he is and tells her she should trust him--and because she does trust him, she shuts up. After some time when there are no other cars around them, the headlights go out just as a car starts coming from the other direction. Because the only light Jason has is from the other car's headlights and he can't see the painted lines on the road around him, he thinks that he is driving straight toward the car and swerves to the side, falling off the road rather forcefully.
They both wake up in the hospital. Jason blames himself for his reckless driving and endangering Ella so badly, when he'd always been afraid he'd do something to hurt her--something that had prevented him throughout their whole friendship to be as close to her as she'd wanted. He also learns that the doctor finds evidence of bad scarring and cuts on her to show that she'd secretly been hurting herself (yup that's me, working self harm into my writing without even having that as my intention) and he blames himself for that too, and decides he should just stay away from her.
What he doesn't know and what I need advice on because I'm not medical expert, is that she was injured more in the accident than he thinks. She doesn't die right off, but because of some kind of injury she has, her life is very limited. I need ideas for an injury that wouldn't kill her right away, but might give her anywhere from 2-5 or so years to live.
Anyway, once Ella realizes Jason is avoiding him she thinks it's because he blames her for the accident, because she'd wanted him to drive when they both knew he shouldn't. Although her family tells her that if the cutting doesn't stop they're forced to send her to and inpatient place for it, she can't stop and they don't realize for awhile. (this part of the novel is told from Ella's POV). Basically I don't have a whole lot of ideas for this part yet, but it's going to be her normal life struggling with the cutting and the aftermath of not having Jason as a friend, when she'd always cared deeply for him.
Eventually, something traumatizing causes her to cut so deeply and terribly, or be injured in some way that her parents find out, and she is sent into inpatient therapy or whatever. She stops speaking at this point, and so the POV switches to that of a boy named Syd who is at the same inpatient place she is. Most people assume she wants to be ignored and either ignore her or openly spite her, but he tries to help her and makes an effort to try to learn who she is. Although she doesn't talk to him, she begins to leave him little bits of writing--poetry or stories or just writing of any kind, and he learns about her personality through her writing. One day she writes a true story, her POV of the prologue, the last night with Jason, which goes into more detail of their time together. He realizes how heartbroken she is and attempts to talk to her about it, and when she starts crying, she finally speaks, talking to him about it.
I don't have many other ideas, I know that was long but if anyone read this I'd like 1. and idea for something to make Ella terminally injured, and 2. ideas on what you think, would you read this, is it stupid or what?
