Anyone here believe in republicanism? I do, I'm sick of my country bending over backwards based on what the queen or her Governor General has to say about laws and stuff. I also despise how new citizens and politicians do not have to swear an oath to our constitution and charter or rights and freedoms but they have to pledge allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen.

I might run for office someday, maybe I won't pledge my allegiance to the queen if I win.

By the way I mean Queen Elizabeth II

So anyone here a republican?

I live in America, but I honestly don't understand the queen/king/prince/lord whatever. Now, they really are pointless, ceremonial titles which just end up costing more than they are worth. Personally, if I lived there, I really wouldn't be crazy about "pledging allegiance" to a ceremonial figure.

Right on, One thing that doesn't make sense is if you're to be a Canadian citizen you can't be knighted by the king/queen and get the title Sir. But as an American you can. WTF? makes no sense, it's not like Canada rebelled for 8 years.

Let's face it: all top leaders are either puppets or figureheads. To explain what I mean, we will look at 2 different countries.
Puppets. Let's look to no other country than America, to begin. This scenario is commonly seen in "republics"(notice the quotes). The president, as well as the house, senate, etc., are controlled by either themselves or another party. The latter is more obvious, and to avoid taking away from the conciseness of this post, I won't discuss it here. The former, however, may not be as obvious, because most people haven't looked past the marketing campaigns. Puppets of themselves: always craving the public eye. Without it, they lose listeners and eventually supporters, because then the people are checking out all the hype around the other candidates. And thus, they begin doing crazy shit just for attention. Like our good friend Sarah Palin, exactly like that.
Now to get back to America, our dear friend the President is currently high. But not high on drugs; rather he is high off of money that he is being [-]bribed with[/-] given. It's like being on LSD, you'll probably do whatever others tell you to do. Now our adversaries, the corporations, are feeding our President with this LSD-like substance(it's green and papery; money). He then does what they say. Like a dog, begging for treats, you know?

Figureheads. Queens, kings, dictators, presidents, you name it: it's usually not them ruling anymore. To bring a mood into this thread, enjoy this song:

It's not me talking...
Rather, the corporations or a communist party(or an equivalent) does the deciding; the president/whatever is merely a mouthpiece.
This isn't happening the way I planned it...
If a president has desires of his own, he is merely removed from office and replaced by a more obeying one. So too will be the story of our president, I fear.
You got me talking, talking, talking talking...
Once people are aware of this, then maybe we will elect better people to do things. But that would require a complete government restructure, so unfortunately, that may not happen anytime soon.

That is all.
