Sadly, I don't think there's much more room in the market for an OS. It's a good dream, but you're going to need a new device to get in on ground level.

Writing an OS takes years. Especially if you are starting from scratch.
Just ask Bill Gates or Linus Torvalds, [-]or even Steve Jobs[/-]. If you want to know what it all looks like, I suggest looking at the source of the Linux kernel.
It would be fun, but who would use it on what device? There's already so many OSes.

All the same, good luck, and who knows, maybe one day it will become famous :)

If you make a device, that is revolutionary, but conceivable, you'll almost certainly find investors. Hell, we're all young. So sure, things take time, something we have :)

I am by no means a coder, I simply don't understand that stuff. But I have a dream that maybe one day I could have my own team of coders and to develop an OS. My main influence in life is Bill Gates, not because he's a billionaire but because he changed the way we use computers. I would love to be able to use my ideas and add something to the brilliant world of computing. I guess I'd kind of be like how Steve Jobs was to Steve Wozniak. I'm not saying I am anything like Jobs but I have ideas all the time and I would love to be able to influence the way an OS is built.

I understand that this requires a lot of money and therefore makes this a dream but I thought I'd share this with you guys.

Why not make an OS simulator? I've built 3 Windows 1 v.1 - v.3

I'm thinking of Modifying My ubuntu setup and converting it into a Custom OS though :)

Yea, custom OS and simulators are completely different from actually making an OS, which unless you do something, in the words of Steve Jobs, "magical" :P, I don't know how it would with today's market.

OS Simulator =\= Custom OS

I can change the 548th line of the source of cp into a comment, recompile, and call it a custom OS. In a way, it would be.

Honestly, though, custom OSes aren't uncommon. SUSE Studio (http://susestudio.com/) is very commonly used for that, in the SUSE world anyways.
For example, miniSUSE (http://susestudio.com/a/jFksKq/minisuse) is a modified version of openSUSE, but then more lightweight.
