Many different reasons. But mostly, the moderators and administrators cannot share the info, as much as we wanna hear.

The White Padded Room -> VirtualTeen HQ

Members are banned because they broke the given forum rules in some way.

If you mean 'all those' as in recently then there's been significantly more spam accounts these past few months compared to this time last year, for example, so there's a chance it was spam. Other than that though it'll just be some form of rule breaking... or pissing off Jon.

or pissing off Jon.

I don't know whether to take this seriously or not, but alas - contrary to popular belief, this is not the case. Plenty of people here might piss me off but as they haven't broken the rules I don't do anything about it. I would be out of my place if I did. Blatantly disrespecting the decision of a staff member is of course against the rules though, however will not result in a ban (or in cases, even an infraction) unless this behaviour is persistent.

Sometimes people make judgements and they don't realise that they can't see everything that we can see, or what goes on behind the scenes. There is no 'corruption' and whatever. People are banned, not just because they piss of staff members, but because they broke the rules they agreed to when they signed up here.

I did write more here but I am sitting in a field on 3G and a pug just decided to bark at me and stamped all over my laptop. Alas. You can make whatever judgement you like, but people who are banned here are banned for a reason and I have the moral highground not just to ban people cause I get pissy. This is the internet after all and taking stuff so seriously just isn't cool.

If they all got banned around the same time, they were probably spam accounts.

I have to wonder what on Earth possessed you to just randomly browse the forums in the middle of a field with a dog, and also what kind of field this is if there is phone signal. Can't be a very good one, you should try a Northumbrian field ^_^

Just pissing off moderators isn't enough to get you banned though, or I wouldn't be here, see above. You have to break specific site rules.

Can you tell I only came here for the field? :P

I always feel that the longer information is withheld, the longer we as a community get to think and then assume and then spread rumours and the only thing that will stop rumours is the truth.

But again as Jon said it’s only the internet why take everything so seriously

Unless you are some specific person --------

One thing does make me wonder about VT and that is, how come if I disrespect a fellow VT member (non staff) very little to nothing happens but as soon as you do it to a staff member you find yourself in so much bother, large amounts of inequality

I do agree with you and it definitely does seem the case, but that's also the same as what quite often occurs outside of the internet too. If you go around insulting your friend on the street then not a lot is going to happen, if you do it to the police then they're going to get pissed off.

People can believe what they want, the only things we as staff hide are things that could be harmful to members if they were let in the open, or that compromise site security etc., there's no secret agenda.

Ummm.. I don't know exactly how this related to the original post, but let me explain. Firstly, disrespecting and insulting fellow members is against the rules and if reported, things will be done about it. Obviously the staff know if the disrespect goes directly to them so it can be handled easier, but at the same time we take issues between members seriously and do deal with them if they are reported to us.

It does clearly state in the rules you agreed to when you signed up here,

Contempt Towards Staff: Public display of contempt towards administrators, global moderators and moderators is prohibited. Violation of this may be seen as trolling if the violator already has a reputation of trolling; otherwise, violation is known as contempt towards a staff member. Do not constantly complain about any decision of a staff member. Your view will be seen, but moderators and administrators have a duty. All decisions are made in consideration for the site's stability. If you have a problem with a staff member contact the senior team (Administrators or Global Moderators).

It is like the police thing. Swearing at a police officer is more serious than if you swore at another member of the public because it shows blatant disrespect towards authority, which says a lot about your attitude and status in society. The same here, if a staff member is disrespected it shows you don't respect the authority of the website and hence you're probably here to cause trouble. It also makes the staff look bad when we just let users disrespect us in the open and diminishes the reputation and authority established as a staff team.

Using this metaphor does not mean we are like a police force by the way guys. That is not the aim. We are here to be friendly and if you follow the rules there is no problem with that. But some people are here to break the rules and just go against us to be annoying and waste our time. It is that contempt that gets people banned, and it is in that situation that we have to act as authority.

Once again, if you have an issue with another member - or you see a member disrespecting another - it will be dealt with. You can't see when we issue infractions or warning but let me assure you it does happen in these cases and will continue to happen. We don't accept that kind of behaviour against members or staff members, but contempt towards staff members is taken seriously for the reasons above.

I'm new here, so could anyone explain why "Andy" got banned? I'm curious, because the posts I've seen so far from him are helpful and or informational.

Thanks!

No. It's not. We do not discuss the bans of individual members.
