The 'It Gets Better' Channel - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/itgetsbetterproject)

I thought it would be a good idea to promote this project because I think the whole 'It Gets Better' concept is just fantastic, and will make a real difference to some teens on these forums facing sexuality concerns.
Their YouTube channel describes themselves as follows:

The It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach -- if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone — and it WILL get better.

The YouTube channel was created for all the reasons given above, and I think the pushing point for it being publicised and promoted was when there was a series of LGBT teens suicides in America last year, I think.

Thousands of videos have been uploaded to the YouTube channel, and they're mostly all from people who have suffered some form of LGBT discomfort/bullying. The message that they aim to bring to each and every viewer is that through all the pain and suffering, in the end it does get better.
There's even a couple of videos on there from celebrities, like this one from Keri Hilson for instance:

The reason I think that this project needs to be promoted here in Teen Sexuality is because the videos offers so much support and they give you the self-confidence you need to be confident about who you are. I know myself I've found lots of comfort in watching some of the many videos on this channel, because they've come from ordinary people from ordinary backgrounds so I feel like I can therefore relate in some ways. One of the biggest upsets I've always had about being gay is not being able to be a father and have kids. After watching several videos from the It Gets Better project, I've seen how there is various other ways for me to become a dad, like surrogacy and adoption. I was aware of these methods before, but I had no confidence to believe they would be any kind of option for me. It's been videos like this It Gets Better from the East Village (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ljaq-dt96g4) where I've seen two gay dads with such a cute baby that have kept me feeling positive. While the two guys in the video are a little patronising, the message is there: it is possible for me to settle down with someone I love and have a baby. Sure it won't necessarily be an easy path, but it's a possible one - and it's the one I want more than anything else.

I really suggest anyone having any sexuality issues takes a look at the It Gets Better YouTube channel, and their website too because in some way or another, a video you watch on there is going to hopefully give you the confidence to accept who you are and love who you are. At the very least, you're going to feel a little better about who you are.

Feel free to post any comments. I'm sure there will be some people like myself who already knew of the channel (thanks to the promotion from the likes of Google Chrome) and would like to comment about how useful they found it. I would love to know if any of you guys found the project through this thread and found it useful and comforting.

It Gets Better.

I find the value of the It Gets Better project to be limited. I don't find it overly helpful in its message. Seeing all of the videos of people who are supportive is pretty awesome. But the actual message? I find it to be unhelpful.
Personally, I like The Make It Better Project ( http://www.makeitbetterproject.org/) to be much more effective and just overall fucking awesome.
It Gets Better promotes just waiting it out. "We know your teenage years suck; just wait it out." ....uh, why do those years have to suck? There's something we can do about it to change it into a positive experience for every teenager, not just those who fit in.
I don't like It Gets Better because of that. Make It Better is a much more positive and encouraging message.

I'd like to do something to make teens lives suck less!
