I just wanted to know what you all felt about cheerleading. Some say that its degrading to women and others say that its just for fun. Honestly, being a cheerleader myself I find that its actually quite a bit of fun if you don't let it go to your head. Its the ultimate display of pride for my school and I enjoy doing it with my friends.

most guys will probably say this, but i have nothing wrong with cheerleaders.
Nothing is really better than looking to the sidelines from the field and then making a play to impress a bunch of cute girls dancing in short skirts because of my parent's tax money.
what i used to always wonder, but i now think is a really dumb idea on my part, is why there arent guy cheerleaders at girl's sports (i.e. girls volleyball, softball, girl's basketball, etc.)...? Maybe that would take away the people who say it's degrading to women.

Its funny because I've always thought about that too. x3 It would pretty cool to have the guys cheering for us for once then the whole degradation thing wouldn't be brought up at all. Of course, in the past there used to be mainly male cheerleaders. I wonder what happened to that.

That's the way people should be thinking! But there are stupid people out there who think that cheerleading is somehow sexist and degrading and as a cheerleader I find that to be somewhat offensive.

Hahaha; when I was in high school I used to mock the cheerleaders all the time- well, mostly my first two years. Being in the band, I thought it was funny to do their cheers and dance moves when we weren't playing, this display including a high-pitched voice thanks to my wide vocal range! They started laughing at me a few times after taking notice... don't ask me if they were laughing at humor or stupidity.
Either way, the summer before my senior year, I made friends with a cheerleader from our rival school... Lol! So from then on, I stopped making fun of cheerleader stereotypes because I realized that for the majority of cases, they're not entirely true. :)
Still, though: it shouldn't be considered a full-fledged sport. It's a form of acrobatics and dancing with the intention of making sports games more exciting to watch. :P

2 of my male friends are male cheerleaders, and I give everyone who does it respect. I give the girls respect for showing their school spirit, they go to practice just like the rest of the sports at school, and everytime I see these girls flying 10+ feet in the air, I give them props because they are just at risk of breaking a bone or injuring themselves just like anybody else on a school sport. And even the males, they carry girls who are 100+ pounds without any hesitation, throw them up in the air, and gotta catch them.

Cheerleaders at my school have to run a lot of laps so they are in shape and they work really hard. Cheerleaders are pretty hott so I think they're awesome, but they do put in a lot of practice time.

I don't find anything wrong with cheer leading. In fact our school's cheer leading squad/team does fantastic performances that obviously take weeks of practice to master.
I just hate, primarily at my school, when cheerleaders bring up the old "Cheerleading is/is not a sport debate" that just sends shit to the fan.

It's a very N. American thing. I've never seen cheerleading in Australia or here in the U.K. Never really had an opinion on it, but i guess it's a form of exercise which a lot of girls i know give up on in their teen years. So i guess i give it thumps up.

It's something that isn't going away anytime soon; that's for sure.
At least cheer leading is debatable.
Super Smash Bros. Melee, on the other hand, is not a sport. :)
