So I live in a christian family and I believe in God too but I'm gay and can't decide whether it's a "bad thing". Is homosexuality a sin and automatically means that I go to hell?
I'd be glad if you could share your thoughts with me.

Well, here's my thoughts on the situation. It's not a choice to be attracted to the same/opposite sex. You can't force yourself to be in love with anyone; you like who you like. If He doesn't like people who are gay, no one would be, because it's just not a choice. It's who you are!
So be who you are, because he's a great person. And be happy!:)

I believe in god and when i think it deeply.i realise that it's not my choice,i live like this and i knew i was gay when i was 6-7 and tried to hide it.so it's not a big deal.just live your life.and even i'm christian i don't take all religous things.firstly i think.and it's wrong.it can not be a sin.

Being a homosexual isn't a sin. That's just crazy. Jesus loves as much as any of us. People get too wrapped up in judging themselves and others.
Plain and simple, extramarrital sex is a sin. So being gay or straight isn't sinning. It's just being! When we act on our urges, that's where consequences kick in.

You won't go to hell because you're gay. If God made you that way then he wouldn't send you to hell. I think the "gays go to hell" thing is just a big exaggeration. Even if being gay is inherently a sin, God forgives all sins, right? So don't worry.

No, you won't go to hell.
There are much worse people that deserve to go to hell (if there even is one) like murders, rapists, etc. over someone who simply loves another person of the same gender.
God loves you.

1) In the bible, it never actually mentions anything against gays, but divorced couples yes. Im not quite sure where anti-gay religeon comes from
2) It is 100% fine to be gay or bisexual. It isnt your choice. It is not a sexual PREFERENCE it is a sexual ORIENTATION. You are born the was you are. I mean seriously, it is said that our 15th president, and Lincouln were gay. Also, one of the very few men who trained our troops, was gay. There was no concrete evidence, but it is said so, and there are a few things to back it up. All in all, being gay is fine.

Homosexuality is not a sin but they don't believe in same sex marriage, so gays can't get married. Then if they have sex you are sinning because of sex before marriage. That's why often people say homosexuality is a sin.

noooooo it isn't. I've had issues surrounding this also, and the others are right. It's not a choice. And besides, is it that big a deal who you love? No, it isn't.
BUT find your own truth. If you believe in God, you must believe in prayer. Pray for yourself. Ask Him. There you will find the truth. Listen to nobody else but your heart and Him on this.

This is where you are wrong. Everyone else has pretty summed it up, its unnatural sex that is a sin. Gay sex isn't considered unnatural unless the act of sex is not "agreeing" with who you really are (sexuality).

Is homosexuality a sin?
Yes
Does that make it immoral?
No
The church isn't always right. In fact, I'd wager that it's almost never right.
If you're going to base your moral code on the church then, by all means, repress who you really are. However, if you are a critically-thinking, self-aware human being then do whatever feels right.

Homosexuality is a sin. Shaving is a sin. Touching a woman while she's on her period is a sin. Wearing clothes with more than one fabric is a sin. Getting a piercing is a sin. Getting a tattoo is a sin. Slavery and sexism are totally cool.
Every single one of those are defined as laws in Leviticus of the Old Testament. However, Christians say that they are under the New Covenant of Christ, and the Old Testament doesn't apply to then. Jesus said not one word regarding homosexuality. Take that how you want.

Actually, Leviticus in the old testament mentions men laying with other men and how they should be put to death. But he also says people must not cut their beard...

NO!!!!
Romans 14:13-14-Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. (KJV)
The NIV is flawed and translated this to say that Paul is speaking of food but truly he is telling us no to judge others because what is wrong and unclean to use may not be unclean to them

How would you explain God creating homosexuals then?
Also, if Leviticus condemns to death homosexuals, and killing somebody is an act of hate, how would it work against this quote?
"Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
(Matthew 22:37-40)
or
"Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law." (Romans 13:8)
The Bible is a comprehensive and collaborative book written by many different people, in different ages, with different ideas and different stands.
Who knows if the ones that wrote it were really guided by God or their own mind. Today if somebody says God talks to him we label him as insane straightaway, maybe in the past it was different.
I still stand with my ideas that if you're a good person, don't do evil stuff to anybody, can forgive and love, you're not a sinner.
The fact you're having a relationship with the same sex can't be a sin, because it simply has no wrong moral fundamentals.

This kicks into a completely different discussion on whether God is a sadistic old man on a cloud killing thousands of hungry kids every day in Africa while a few old men with a few years to live regain their ability to walk every once in Lourdes; or he is simply nonexistent.
But this is not the point of this thread.

I dont really wanna make this an opinion piece, but for the sake of making you NOT hate yourself, I will tell you the truth.
Yes, people believe in all sorts of things. Religion is a way to make sense of human existance, and all over the world, people have different reasonings. You were born into a family that believes in God, with a capital G. And according to the religion, homosexuality is a sin.
But the Bible which says this is nothing more than a book. It was written centuries ago, before modern science. There are good people who use it as a GUIDELINE to live their lives, as it helps them show respect and love for everyone.
Then there are the people who take each word literally, and therefore hate on everyone the bible says to hate, even tho the bible also says to love everyone. Those people are the crazy ones who I wish who would understand that homosexuals didnt chose to be gay and that they should mind their own business.
Hopefull your family is not part of the crazies. Homosexuality may be a sin, but that doesnt mean you have to believe it. You did not chose to be gay, therefore it could not possibly be a sin. What I always say is never let someone else, especially a religion, tell you who to be. Thats up for you to decides. Be happy with who you are. It really is truely better to be part of a minority, because you get to fight for your right to be human

As.a Catholic we were told that people that are homosexual should live a chaste life, and my opinion is that if it is a sin that God will forgive it because the only unforgivable sin is a sin against the Holy Spirit. my religion teacher said one of her best friends was lesbian but she still treated her the same

my understanding is that homosexuality is nor (r) not a sin. By that you can be "non practicing". So you can date, hold hands, kiss etc In other words not having actual sex (male type).
So I think I as a lesbian is not sinning when sleeping with a girl.

In the bible, it never actually says that being gay is a sin. However, homosexual acts are a sin. You can be attracted to people of the same sex, that is not what constitutes a sin. The sin is having sexual contact with someone of the same sex.
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."
This being said. I am a christian. I believe that every one has a burden to bare while on this earth. For some, it is being attracted to another male. If you truly love God and want to be dedicated to your faith, remember this. Also remember that every sin is forgiveable. You may slip sometimes and find yourself having made sexual contact with a male. This is not the end of the world. You can be forgiven.

Ill add this, i don’t believe this belongs in an edit, but these are two Facebook posts.
Person 1: Homosexuality is a sin Lacey, and it is black and white in the Bible.
Person 2 (response): So is not treating your body like a temple. And ladies should have their head covered. And in Deuteronomy, a marriage is only valid if the woman is a virgin, and she should be executed if she is not... and that anyone who commits adultery should be stones to death. In mark, divorce is prohibited. I assume for homosexuality your referring to Leviticus 18:6: "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female. It is an abomination." A similar verse occurs two chapters later, in Leviticus 20:13: "A man who sleeps with another man is an abomination and should be executed." Leviticus is a holiness code written 3,000 years ago. It also includes prohibitions against round haircuts, tattoos, working on the Sabbath, wearing garments of mixed fabrics, eating pork or shellfish, getting your fortune told, and even playing with the skin of a pig. (There goes football!). I believe morality, which is doing right regardless of what I am told... not in religion, which is doing what I am told regardless of what is right. You're welcome to your own interpretation of the bible and of politics, of course, but for me, I need more than "the Bible says so" to justify certain things in this world and certainly to judge them.
I believe the second person is by far right, and I am sorry to any of who this may offend, but it is the truth. Go person number 2!
Feel free to be straight, bi, or homosexual, change your gender, change your race, ect. Really, its all about how you feel, why would we follow certain things in the bible and not others, such as not allowing being gay, but allowing to eat pork and such. Really, picking and choosing is not an option, and since it was written so many years ago, it should generaly be disreguarded on what you cannot do, besides certain points, such as killing, but thats a whole different story. Those were written under completely different circumstances, and really dont apply much to todays world, so, go about your life as you belive you should. Ignore all the haters. They are ignorant, and fear change, ignorance fuels fear, and the reaction is anger and hatred. Maybe one day we will all be able to accept who we are, but unfortunatly, people are not prepared of current, so live how you wish to live, and ignore the haters.

He made everything. He made Hitler. Does that mean that God is a nazi?
Hitler made choices throughout his life. He was not born a hateful person, no one is. Every human on this earth has the power both to create and destroy, figuratively. Both forces exist within us. So there's a major difference between Hitler and gays.
If it was ok to be gay it would have been adam and steve, not adam and eve
Well that's flawed. Adam and Eve were supposedly the first humans, correct? So how the fuck would there be such things as humans now, supposedly, if he created two men?
The bible is hypocritical as hell. And I don't get how people can actually sit there and say "Well, the bible says this..." when, as it's been brought up, most modern Christians do not believe everything the bible says. I don't believe in God, but surely, with everything I hear about him, if he really had a problem with homosexuality he would surely do something about it, especially with the increasing tolerance of homosexuality. If it's just going to hell, I mean, that won't fix the problem, because acceptance is just becoming more widespread. I don't know, if I was so against something natural to my own creation, I'd probably do something about it. At least pretty much everywhere you go, murder is discouraged, cheating on your spouse is morally incorrect unless it's an open relationship, but lots of people love gays for who they are, and more and more people are becoming that way. Or rather, we're creating a generation that is more accepting, so eventually there will be much fewer people who are homophobic, just like the racism issue. It still exists, but we've gotten passed most of it. Unless God's given up. Because I wouldn't blame him, ha.
As well, just adding in, I don't get how you can love someone so much and then send them somewhere where they'll burn for all eternity. So either he is fine with homosexuality or he's lying about loving his children. A parent says "Well, I don't like what you did, but I still love you, nothing will ever change that" not "You disobeyed me, HELLFIRE!!"

Here is how I view the whole thing.
First of all, yes, being gay is a sin, (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) "1 Corinthians 6:9-10
New International Version (NIV)
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
However, you must realize that the verse isn't litteraly saying "If you're gay, then you don't go to heaven" , more-over it means that it is just a sin.
You have to realize that all sin is equal under the eye of God, If you masturbate you are just as bad as hitler, if you get jealous over an I-Phone you might as well have killed a small child. In the vision of God, ALL sin is equal.
BUT, here is the kicker, every Man, Woman, and Child is a sinner, it is unavoidable.
Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.
God Loves all of Mankind equally, you have to realize that no matter what God will forgive you.
1 John 1:7-9 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
And anyone who wishes to claim otherwise is not following this simple rule, we have to forgive eachother's sins.
Luke 17:3-4 So watch yourselves! “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”
TL;DR, Yes, being Gay is a sin, but every human on Earth sins, God forgives us for these sins, and you are a hypocrite if you call somebody a sinner for being gay.

Not to be a dick, but it mentions homosexuality quite explicitly several times,
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV)
Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

The Bible is clear on two things:
1. If you accept Jesus Christ into your heart you will be saved and go to heaven after you die.
"In reply Jesus declared,"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." John 3:3
Being born again means getting a new heart, a new soul in Jesus.
2. Homosexuality is a sin.
"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Leviticus 18:22
As said before in this thread the only sin that God will not forgive is denying God, because the bible also says that if you deny Jesus in front of people then Jesus will deny you in front of his father (God).

That's not really true. You can call someone a sinner for being gay. That's a fact. Now, I'm a sinner too, but that doesn't mean I'm a hypocrite. If I said I can be gay and live without sin, but you cannot, then that would be hypocritical.

It depends. I personally do not think it's a bad thing to be gay or bi or whatever. But, then again, I'm not a Christian as you are. I think religion is something that every person understands differently. Now, you can listen to Christians, who will tell you that's a sin. Or you can read the Bible, where it's written, we have to love everybody and that God made us all and that he doesn't make mistakes. He made you gay. You were born gay.

Way to be contradictory...
You realize that the reason that Christians say it's a sin is because it's in the Bible right? And yes in Matthew 22:37-39 the Pharisees (the religious leaders of the day, they didn't like Jesus) asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was. And Jesus answered the Love the Lord your God and savior and love your neighbor.
You can love a sinner, because we are all sinners. We were born into a sinful world. We will continue to sin because men love darkness, whereas Jesus is the light. We are not perfect, so therefore we sin. But Jesus was perfect and he came into the world and died so that we might have a relationship with God.

It is written in the Bible that homosexual orientation is not in itself a sin. People do not chose to be gay, they are born that way. And as God created all of us, he knows if we are going to turn out gay, lesbian or bisexual.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart." ~ Jer. 1:5a
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." ~ Rom. 8:1
However, while there are only a handful of passages which mention same-sex relationships, all of them are negative. Christians are divided on the right way to interpret these passages.
One view is that the Bible condemns homosexual acts and that gay Christians should commit to lifelong celibacy. This is the predominent view on the Roman Catholic Church.
Another view is that the Bible condemns certain sexual practices – including the homosexual sex rites of ancient pagan idol worship – but that God blesses a loving, monogomas, Christ-centered, same-sex marriage.
“Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” -Romans 1:27
So, in my opinion if the sex is contained within a loving marriage and is consensual on both parts then it is not indecent, so God does not have a problem with it.

It is not a sin, and even if it was God will not send you to hell for one sin. Even a big one.
Warrior out.

Well since Christians believe that God creates every single one of us, why would it be a sin!!! It's not like he wants us to go to Hell!!

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."
This is a very bad translation from the hebrew text. In actual fact it should translate more like "You should not sleep with a male prostitute in your marriage bed; it is against tradition."

God made the bad stuff along with the good.
It's not like he wants us to go to Hell!!
That's debatable, what with his ridiculously high standards and absurdly inflated ego.

Even though the bible does say that homosexuality is a sin, biblical scholars have suggested that it's more of a metaphor for idolatry than an issue with who you sleep with. I come from a pretty religious family too and, even though I'm straight, I think that God wouldn't send a person to hell because of something out of their control.
You didn't choose to be gay. It's not your fault, and it's not a sin. Please stop worrying about it.
