Just tell her straight up, "Hi mum do you know I am now going out with ****"

You don't need to tell her, do you?
If you must then Kyle suggested the best way. Be as direct as you can and tell her it's happening and doesn't require her approval - if you need to go that far.

I'd tell her after, there isn't much she can do about it when it's already happened. But I'd recommend you tell her because she'll find out eventually, its best if she hears it first from you, not having it slip out in a convo with your friend or something

Matters what type of person your mother is .....
Since she is strict
- If you know she isn't going to approve, tell her upfront in a person to person talk
- If you think she will approve, polite gesture would again be a person to person talk, however you can probably just text her.
- If you are unsure, a person to person talk is best, and if I were you, I would have a few points ready just incase she decides to argue a bit.

Mom, don't hate the playa, hate the game! Holla! -idk, i present most things as a joke to my parents and btw, we're just the ave white suburbanites. So if I use my street talk, mom gets mad and I laughingly tell her that's racist.
