I have this one friend who's extremely smart (wrote two books from entering NaNoWriMo, 2390 SAT score, Valedictorian) and all my cousins are either doctors or lawyers. They all make me feel insecure about how smart I am and where I stand among the geniuses in my school -0- I got my first C's on my report card last quarter, I'm a sophomore, and I feel like it's cause I haven't tried hard enough in school. My mom literally just freaked out on me and told me I'm "stupid." I'm scared of not getting straight A's this quarter -___- In asian families, they take not having good grades as a sign of stupidity. My school has a lot of asian kids and they're my friends and they say I just don't try hard enough, I feel like I'm not good enough to be friends with them. Anyone else have this problem? Cause I tried really hard last quarter to get good grades but ended up failing most of my tests and quizzes, I feel dum, completely dum.

Maybe you just need to try new ways of review. Try making your own study guides, rewrite notes, double check your homework answers; It all helps. Also, if you need extra help - its not something to be ashamed of. Ask some of your friends for help if you're not understanding anything. I use some of these methods and they work for me. Best of luck

I have almos the same problem as you.. But i'm not asian and I still get straight A's.. Well, there are a couple of guys in my class that are.. what you call them? Brains! and people consider me one too. BUT, when you ask him a question, he answers in like one second and he understands things WAY faster than I do, and when I ask the teacher a questtion HE answers. And teachers go on HIS speed, if HE understands it (And not the others) they just continue to another subject. And i'm feeling like i'm falling behind. Especially in math. I've found myself doing what i've never done before look for tutoring and asking HIM about stuff, when usually people ask ME.
I may say, it's not that I don't understand, it's that the teacher really don't care as long as HE understands.. And everytime I ask him about something he says "Carlos, this is easy! I can't believe you don't understand!" So, I feel like i'm falling back and i'm not giving my 100% (And stangely, I get better grades that him..O_o) ..
But I think all the things about asians getting bad grades is a sing of ignorance thing puts a whole diffrent load and pressure on you. I feel this way because I push MYSELF, but you GET pushed. So I say, just try finding another way to help you study or find a tutor like I did. What I normally do, I write everything (The review for the test) over and over again, or I just re-read the topics everyday and sometimes record myself saying everything and just listen to it over and over again; I've found it works wonders when you go to sleep hearing it..
