If you tell them your depressed, they'll help you but they probably wouldn't put you in a hospital. Although, i you told them you want to die and your going to kill yourself, then yes they will.

Well congrats dear on taking this step. Its very brave of you..it took me a very long time to be able to do this myself. To answer your question, it really depends on how severe they think the situation is and they evaluate how much of an immediate risk you are to yourself. It will be very scary but its the best thing for you. Being admitted really changed my life. :)

Like chasingperfection said, conrats. You're truly brave, this is a really big step to take. As for your question, I also agree with chasing perfection, she summed it up.

For me when I talked to my doctor about depression I told him I've attempted suicide but he just wanted to get help. I never got put in a hospital

It really depends where you live; different areas have different laws. I've never been put in a hospital myself, but my psychologists always told me that if I was actively suicidal (as in, planning the method, date and time) they'd be obligated to put me into a hospital, but if I was just feeling depressed and wanted to die, they wouldn't do anything. Past suicide attempts don't matter, what matters is what you're planning to do now. If you aren't actively formulating a plan, you should be fine.

If you're really in bad shape though, it may be best for you to go to a hospital, where you can get the help you need without the responsibilities and challenges of everyday life. If you're already suicidal, what have you got to lose?

Good luck <3.

This.

And I'm not too sure. Awhile back the police showed up at my house when I was going to attempt suicide, I was in the hospital for at least 4 hours. They were going to keep me for like 3 days, but then my mom said no I was fine. (doged a bullet there)

Not sure if that helped at all, but that's my 2 cents.

It's good that you are planning to go, trying to get the help that's out there. That's a big and brave step, well done.

They are unlikely to admit you unless its really serious, I've been considered for hospitalization twice, once when I was seeing my doctor for self harm and revealed I was going to try to kill myself. She told me she'd seriously consider hospitalization for ms but at this point if I said no she would respect this. The second time was when the police came to my house because I was suicidal, they dropped it eventually though and left me alone.

So from my experiences if you do say no they won't do anything like put you in hospital unless youre a really serious risk to yourself and so your opinion is invalid.

But well done for seeking help, you should be proud of yourself.

They won't put you in the hospital unless you are a serious threat to you or others
