A little problem with my GF

OK I just got myself a girlfriend.I like her because she is kind, caring, and a few other good things I don't quite remember.I went out on a first date with her at a shopping mall a few days ago.But she is a quiet type and whatever I say she will only have few things to reply.I'm always the one who needs to think of a new topic and finally run out of things to say.I've talked to her about this and she said she'll be trying to speak more.Is there anything I'm missing out here?? I need some advices on how to avoid these awkward silences /,

Make her laugh. Be spontaneous. Just go have fun.

it seems to be her personality and you cant change that over night. it can change but it will take time like said above have fun and be spontaneous and make her laugh are all good ideas to try also maybe try new things with her and see how she reacts to new things and different environments.

That's how I am. I usually don't say much until the other person breaks through my "wall".

Ask her about things she is interested in and have conversations about what she likes. Don't be afraid to argue (nicely) with her about them if you disagree, because unless she is very sensitive, she will want to explain her point of view to you.
