Seeing someone you like go out with someone else

This is not a situation that i am in, but rather a friend.

My mate has liked this girl for a while now, but found out today that she is dating someone else.

I just want to know if any of you guys have been in the same situation?

And if so, how did it feel?

I have, It had to be one of the worst feelings. She went out with about 3 or 4 guys in the space of a month, never lasting more than a few days, this was right after she rejected me :'(
