so... i don't cut but i do scratch... i have 5 scars on my hands and fingers and 3 on my wrist from where i have scratched all the skin off... one problem i have is that i don't know how to treat them after words...
i put a bandaid wrap on my wrist after it happened but the scab kinda grew to the bandaid... i have been trying to quit but most of the times i don't realize that what i am doing untill after i have scratched off the skin...
so i was just wondering if anyone knew how to care for scatches like that.... all of the scratchs i had ended up getting infected and i didn't know how to care for them... i made up a story when my parents asked about it and they just gave me some cream that didn't really help...
any suggestions would be helpfull...
thanks...

I see you're new, so first of all, welcome to VT :)
When you're scratching, all the shit that you can't see that's on your hands is being scratched into the wound. The best way to prevent infection would be to wash it pretty much straight away afterwards. Soak it in some warm water, and if you think it's necessary, dab some antiseptic wipes on them.
After that, just try and make sure they don't get too dirty. Keeping a bandage or some kind of dressing around it is a good idea if it breaks the skin, but in general, make sure that it looks clean. Every now and then soak it in water until it heals.
Good luck. :hug3:

^^ and also make sure you wash your hands before to try and get rid of a lot of the germs. Of course, the best solution would be to try and give up, but I know how hard that can be and it can make things worse if you're not completely ready, so don't pressure yourself. :)

i did wash out the scratches on my fingers right away but i didn't really keep them covered... so that could be why they got infected... it probably didn't help that 2 or 3 days after i scratched them i was helping move hay bails for my stepdad and get got rubbed raw again...
i have been trying to stop... i have been attempting the Butterfly Project... I had a butterfly on my wrist that has already faded away and just today i drew one on my hand...

Do you know of anything that is good at getting rid of scars?... i had a few people ask me about the scars on my wrist and ask if i was cutting... i told them the fake story that i tell everyone... only my 2 best friends know the truth about what happened... i was just wondering if there was anything fairly cheep that would help get rid of the scars...

Bio-oil is supposed to be good but it's quite expensive...

hmm... ok... I just don't want anymore rumors going around then there already are... I know that my friends try and stop what they here because they know what happened... but most of the people here would rather ignore the obvious facts and just make up what they want... Cutting is kind of a joke at my school :(

Cutting is kind of a joke at my school too.
Bio-oil works to some extent. I managed to get a sample bottle, but my scars are still a little noticeable. Good luck with getting rid of yours!

It's honestly because they don't understand. They don't understand why people do it and why they would do something to them selves.
Cutting is a joke in most places, as most people don't accept it, just I guess because of pop culture or something.. If everyone cut, then everyone would understand, but not everyone does, and so people don't understand. And people can be bitches, and mean, and not give things a chance. They also probably don't understand how serious it is.
