So my girlfriend has decided she wants to get birth control for lots of reasons. It'll clear up her skin, keep her periods under control and most importantly we can have sex with less risk.
So I have a question, on alot of websites it said that after about 1-2 weeks of her being on the pill, it'll be safe to have sex without a condom (with the exception of STDs, but we're clean)
So I want to ask you, how safe is it really? Is using a condom still recommended (I will most likely still use a condom, for sure. I'm just curious)

The pill is 99% percent effective when used correctly.
By that I mean, it needs to be taken everyday, and at the same time everyday. If she forgets for even just a day, it isn't safe to have unprotected sex.
The way the pill works is that it alter's the bodies hormones so that no egg matures in the ovaries and therefore no egg is released. This is quite effective but all it takes is one day for an egg to be released and for you two to be at risk for the rest of that month.
It is much wiser to use a condom as well, just to be on the safe side. :)

Her doctor will tell her this, too. Depending on which pill she chooses, it might be somewhere between 98.8% effective and 99% effective. If she doesn't feel mature enough to remember the pill, maybe she should try a shot.
If you're worried about it, use condoms. Condoms. Condoms. Condoms. Or at least pull out.

Your welcome! And, plus, if you use condoms then both of you will be less stressed over the idea that something could of gone wrong.

I've known 2 girls who got life threatening blood clots in their legs from being on birth control pills.
