I joined a sport this year and we have to wear short sleaves for the meets apparently, I haven't cut since this summer I use vitamin e oil on my skin to help the scars fade a bit but they're still a lightish purple and I try to put foundation on it but you can still see it a bit if you really look at it and I'm paranoid so I feel like everyone can see them! I haven't even told my mom or anyone in my family that I used to SH and I hid that for 3 years I'm not exactly ready to be running around in short sleaves with everyone watching im scared what if they all notice and say mean things about me like in an emo or a bunch of other things i'll admit my self asteem is so low that it's pathetic i can't deal with people criticising me at all or I feel like what they say is true and end up wanting to SH or worse so I'm reallyy reallyy not looking forward to this Im really nervous and I can't miss it unless I wanna get droped out of the sport idk what to do...I hope no one minds me asking and if you do you don't have to answer this but if you ever wore short sleaves or someone saw your scars how did people react was it that bad??

Relax,
im guessing it's on your arm(s)? Just wear a sport sleeve, you can find them at any retail store or something like sports authority, here's an image:

unless your in swimming you have nothing to worry about, i wore one all season for cross country.
if you can't find one, get a hand wrap and wrap it on your arm

Hi Dreamer

No need to worry yourself, there are lots of things you can do! You can wear a track top under your short-sleeves to cover more of your arm. You can wear the sport sleeves (as mentioned about) or other similar bands and wraps that they sell in lots of stores. You can also create a simple wrap from a plain linen bandage that won't attract attention at all.

When I'm with my family I cover my arms to conceal scars, but not really the rest of the time. In time you'll decide where and when you feel comfortable and who you feel comfortable with, then you won't be so concerned about reactions :)

Try and remember what a pain in the ass scars are to have and use it as motivation to help you SH less.

Good luck,
Rus

Thank you! I think I'll try and find a sports sleave hopefully they'll let me wear it though *crosses fingers* I'm not sure how strict my school is with the uniforms during meets were going to talk more about what were allowed to wear this week. And I do have to swim in gym this January which stinks but im not really stressed out about it yet b/c I think they should fade a little more by then and maybe waterproof foundation might cover them better and lol ya I do try and remember what a pain in the ass scars are....espicially the whole hidding them part but I haven't technically SH for about 3 months so the using that for a motivation is working out pretty good so far I think :) but thanks for the answers you guys I feel a little better about this whole situation now
