So, I have been sleeping a lot. Is that normal, I mean everyday after school I'm exhausted. I used to have more energy, so much more! I'm guessing this is normal because other people at my school feel the same way! Is this happening to anyone else?

Yup, I take naps for hours everyday. Just a part of growing up...

I am tired ALL the time, I get like 7 hours of sleep a night so that doesn't help. But when I sleep for 12 hours I feel even more tired, like I can't get enough. I've gotten used to it though as it has been a daily thing for me now.

I find that I get most tired at about 4-7pm (right about now, anyone tired :P) so I fall asleep some days. Then I just don't sleep at night until maybe 3-4am, hate the day time anyway so it's fine for me.

I've had some problems being tired all the time too lately. I can sometimes sleep 8+ hours a day and still wake up tired. It got to a point where I asked my doctor about it during a routine exam last year. After ruling out a diagnoisis of Mononucleosis (which symptoms include: fatigue, headache, sore throat, muscle aches), the doctor attributed it to a probable growth spurt. He said when you bodies grows, it uses up massive amounts of energy which makes you tired all the time.

Additionally, the school district I'm in is considering changing the school start time because they are FINALLY recognizing that young people don't function that well in the early morning as they do later on in the day. It's a scientific fact proven by case studies. I only wish they would have figured this out before I was a freakin' senior.

This is a terrible idea. What happens when the kids that haven't had to get up early for school go into a job that they need to be at early in the morning. They going to complain that they 'don't function well' and need the business to open later. Absolutely pathetic.

Actually what Liveoak is saying is true. This has been proven many times over in case studies. It has to do with circadian rhythms and the shift that takes place at the onset of and during puberty.

I don't deny the fact that teens work better later in the day. What is ridiculous is that it set a terrible standard for when they leave school and go into work.

Yeah it's a good point. But I guess as more is learned and situations evolve the standards of the workplace may shift with it to accommodate. But you're right it won't be pretty at first.

Oh, definitely. My mom gets mad when she finds out I have taken a nap after school. But I just can't help it; I get so damn tired. But that's also because I go to sleep around 12 or 1 and get up at 6... but that's not too bad. At the beginning of this school year, I would stay up until like 2 or 3. But yeah, I am always tired, yet I hate going to sleep on school nights.
