Cut for the first time for 3 weeks, feel so much better. i regret it, but i was feeling so uneasy, so unstable.
eh anyway,
To get to the question, im tired of stealing razors from my local walmart, because i dont have the money to buy a box. so instead i reuse them. the question is: How do you keep them from rusting, changing color, losing sharpness?

P.s New to the forum, thanks.

p.s.s if is of any help wilkinson sword brand razors; use rubbing alcohol to disinfect

Thanks

Hi Shakes

Have you considered taking any action to stop harming yourself? (I know that wasn't what you asked about but I think it's more important). Would having constant access to useable razors make your situation worse?

Once they are removed from their seals and exposed to liquids etc, most brands of razor will undergo some kind of reaction eventually. Thinner style blades are also fairly hard to re-sharpen and constantly disinfect so none of the options are totally great (or safe)

Welcome to the boards,

First off, reusing can lead to forms of infections and even diseases. Ultimately this isn't a good source of action (as you most likely know). I would suggest talking with some people here on the board or (best course of action) talking to a therapist.

ahh well i guess.
Thank you for the welcomes, I've been browsing the forms for some time, it does seem helpful.
I guess I'll have to keep finding new ones.
@RustyRocket,
No, i haven tried quitting, just portioning the amount of time in between cuts. And i've had my razors taken away from me once by a friend of mine, it did not go well.
It makes you feel secure.

Yeah I can understand that Shakes, I know that when I have access to my razors I feel less likely to cut (because I can, so I don't panic).
I'd suggest you keep trying to increase the time between cuts. There is a Non-Selfharm Calendar here that I and tons of other people find useful, so you can keep track of your progress. Maybe try that too?

Not to steal the thread or anything, but that makes something come to mind for me.

I don't use razors, but instead a small swiss army pocket knife. True, it's not as sharp, but it cuts pretty well. The thing is, I've been using it for the past...5 months? Re using. I mean, it's never really been covered in blood or anything, but I do wash it with water when I see dried blood on it, and that usually comes off. Do you think I have anything to worry about infection wise? I haven't noticed anything.

If the blade is stainless steel, not corroding etc, kept clean and you are not sharing it with anyone or using it for other purposes then it's likely that you will be infection free. Remember also that you have just as much chance of contracting an infection from your cuts if they are not properly tended to!
Basically, don't ever assume that any part of SH is risk free

@blue
i tend to be kinda paranoid about the sterilization part of it all, because if you get an infection you have to get help
your safe as long as you clean the knife with rubbing alcohol before and after you sh, or run a flame through it for 5-10 secs.
get a new knife soon though. its bound to get dullish, or grow bacteria.

Requesting ways to improve your abilities to self harm is against forum rules, we are here to help you stop cutting, not help you make the process better. :locked:
