I'm 14 and I recently found a small, hard lump on one of my testicles. I've researched as much as I can and the only thing I think it could be is cancer. I don't know how to tell my mum and I'm really scared.
What do I do?
Edit: Okay, I think I have an Epididymal Cyst. I will go and see a doctor all the same but I would welcome any advice on how to tell my parents.

I had the same thing. I told them, got it checked out, and it turned out to be nothing. She will understand.

Could be a cyst. Friend had one. Lanced it with a safety pin. I don't advise doing this though even though it fixed his problem. Go to a doctor.

I can not say this enough;
GET IT CHECKED BY A DOCTOR
It may be nothing could be a Cyst but in any case it needs to be looked at.

I'd tell your mother or go to your GP.

Thankyou for all the helpful responses. However, I was just wondering two things.
Am I allowed to see a GP (I live in England) confidentially, ie. without parental consent?
And how could I go about telling my mum?
I have also done some further research and have found a couple of things that have given me peace of mind:
-The lump I have felt matches that of a cyst
-Cysts do not usually need treatment
Despite this, I will still probably visit a doctor just to be sure but it has made me a lot less worried. Thanks again for all the replies, I feel much better. :)

Im not sure about England but here in Australia you need to be 16 to visit a Doctor by yourself, but mate seriously, I have been in a room with my parents having my set checked by a doctor, its not as bad as it sounds.Y ou nor I - nor anyone else here can say for sure if it a cyst over VT - it may be, however if its not and its something dangerous, time is of the essence - it needs to be looked at.
Its good that you are thinking about seeing a Doctor - the sooner the better. Please do :)

I cannot agree with Josiah enough, you need to get it looked at.
You need to grow up, your parents will and have seen you naked at one point or another so just suck it up and do it....you will not regret it, I promise.

I want to go and see a doctor but I'm obviously a bit embarrassed. I am going to tell my mum or my dad but I would be grateful for any advice on what to say.
At the moment I'm thinking of just saying 'It's kind of personal' and so I can speak to the doctor myself.

My doctor in SE would alway ask my mom to leave the room while checking down there. So if that is your main concern, you can bring that up.
Don't be ashamed to ask to go to the doc, your parents will be proud you are taking care of yourself

Dude, no one can be more supportive than your parents in a time like this, they will find out anyways because you are not an adult yet so you might as well tell them.
Scenario1
You have testicular cancer and have to get one of your balls removed, mom finds out and she goes ballistic on your ass because she is now just finding out.
Scenario 2
You tell mom and dad, mom and dad take you to the doctors and you are positive, mom cries and dad goes well we caught it in time (Happy/Sad family but no bitching mother.)
All in all, the moral of the story is TELL YOUR PARENTS!!!! It will save you in the long run....

if its for the sake of ur health, ur mom wont care where the lump is or what you were doing when you found it. definitely DON'T LANCE IT, but get it looked at by your doctor.

in responce to the other posts saying your only 14 so you probably dont have cancer, they're wrong. The highest percentage of people who get testicular cancer are between the ages 14 and 40, it's right here in the health book and pediatrician told me(so don't try and disprove me). But don't worry because not all lumps found near, on, or around your testicles are cancerous but should be checked out by your doctor none the less.
And oh, by the way. When I was having chest pain around the area of my heart, I was afraid to ask to go to the doctor to because I keep to myself and very embarrased to be admiting I'm in pain, but I just told my mom I have chest pain so take me to the doctor and walked away, no other words. week later I had x ray echo and ekg done and comes to find out I have a congintial heart defect. so don't feel embarrased or ashamed becuase you're dealing with your health and life.
