Well, im on a router with my mom. her computer is in the next room.
It seems that whenever she logs on her computer while im on mine, i lose my connection. This can be quite annoying sometimes, especially if im playing an online game and am in the middle of a fight. Is there some way to stop this interference?

Alright. Its a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, with 4-port switch.
I was just on the net, and my mom logged in and then it all went to shit and took like 3 mins to go back to normal. Arg

How are IPs on the network being assigned? DHCP?

I would expect it to act somewhat like that IF both computers were assigned a Static address that happened to be the same. But, usually if that happens, a little yellow pop up balloon would pop up in your system tray and tell you that.
And, by logging on, I assume turning her computer on?
Try checking the IP Addresses on both machines.
Start > Run > CMD > ipconfig
It should be in the form 192.168.x.x usually.

If both of their IPs were to be the same, he would see a nice window alert telling him that a duplicate exists on the network. Have you tried to update your firmware?
